The SPOC Football Club would like to wish Jonnie Read a wonderful retirement following his final game for the club last Saturday against Tea Tree Gully.
Jonnie has been a proud member of SPOC since 2020, joining us after making the move from Melbourne. He settled into the club with ease, thanks in no small part to his warm nature and genuine care for those around him. Jonnie began his playing career on the wing before making the move to full back, where he quickly became a force to be reckoned with.
After a few years, Jonnie had the opportunity to call time on his playing career, but being the loyal person he is, he decided to stick around. From 2023 to 2025, he took on the role of A Grade assistant playing coach, while continuing to be a superstar on the field. During some challenging times for the A Grade side, Jonnie selflessly played wherever he was needed, both forward and back, always putting the team first. A career highlight came in the final game of 2023, when Jonnie produced a best-on-ground performance, kicking five goals to help keep the club in Division 1. It was a performance that perfectly summed up Jonnie’s ability to step up when the club needed him most. His efforts were further recognised in 2024 when he was selected at centre half back in the Adelaide Footy League Division 1 Team of the Year.
Jonnie then produced a fantastic 2025 season, kicking 31 goals and solidifying himself as a genuine threat every time he stepped onto the field up forward.
While his achievements on the field speak for themselves, it is Jonnie’s impact off the field that makes him truly one of a kind. Smart, caring and incredibly genuine, Jonnie is someone our younger players look up to and a true role model around the club. He is the kind of person who will always make time for a conversation, whether things are going well or not, and that is a testament to the person he is.
Congratulations, Jonnie, on a fantastic SPOC career. The club, your teammates, coaches, sponsors and supporters thank you for your incredible loyalty and contribution over the years. We wish you nothing but the very best for whatever comes next. You will always be part of the family ❤️

Consistent, tough, a great learner and loyal to the Club - excellent for Alex Lillecrapp to be named among the best players in the B Grade's win and his milestone game yesterday.
Onya Crappa!

What a finish to the season! A gritty win from our A Grade when challenged late; the Bs got it done in an arm wrestle and the Cs just fall short.
Plenty to take into next year.

A special moment for Saturday’s A Grade debutant, Patrick Higgins.
Paddy’s dad, Brad, and brother, James, presented him with his guernsey before our victory over Athelstone.
Paddy is the fourth Higgins brother to play A Grade for the Club and he played exceptionally well.
Get around this great man who puts in the work!
