Gallery One (MVAC) is an independent and not-for-profit initiative, one of the longest running organisations of its kind in Australia (founded in 1974).This organisation, located within the Mitcham Cultural Village, is promoting and showcasing art and crafts with a strong community and art teaching focus driven by energy, motivation, passion and countless hours of many dedicated volunteers.

LIFE DRAWING FOR BEGINNERS with Robert Zunic

You will be surprised how much you can learn in just two days.
This workshop is designed to give beginners a strong foundation in the essential skills of life drawing. Robert will guide you through everything you need to get started with confidence, from demonstration and presentation to drawing from a cast and working with both male and female models. The workshop closes with a group feedback session, a great opportunity to reflect on your progress and take home some valuable insights. In this workshop, we'll explore how to paint still life using acrylics in a loose, expressive style, with a strong emphasis on freedom and spontaneity.
You'll learn how to let go of perfectionism and embrace a more relaxed approach to painting, capturing the beauty of everyday objects through bold, intuitive brushwork. We'll dive into techniques that help you loosen up, build confidence with your brush, and bring glass and fruit to life with lively, energetic marks.
This session is designed to help you tap into a more instinctive painting process, opening the door to expressive mark-making and allowing your personal style to shine through in every brushstroke.

Create your own amazing coloured and patterned papers using rice paper and dye.
Discover the Japanese art of ORIZOMOGAMI and traditional simple paper dyeing techniques used, including folding and dyeing and mixing colours in unique and interesting ways. Each time you fold and dye you will get a different result as each paper dyed is unique and a surprise when the unfolded pattern is revealed.
We will learn the art then create unique gift boxes using this technique.

Last night, Gallery One in Mitcham was filled with art, conversation, and a wonderful sense of community as 'The Voice of the Artist' exhibition officially opened.

Presented by The Artist's Voice, the exhibition brings together an outstanding group of established and award-winning South Australian artists, showcasing a diverse range of painting, drawing, and mixed-media works. Visitors enjoyed the opportunity to explore the many creative perspectives represented in the exhibition while catching up with artists and fellow art lovers in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The exhibition was officially opened by Gallery One Chair David Milne and artist Philip David, who spoke about the importance of supporting local artists and the vibrant visual arts community in South Australia.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. The exhibition features works by Barbara Chalk, Bob Landt, David Braun, Hugh Adamson, Jann Makepeace, Kathryn Hill, Mel Stock, Philip David, Rachel Scholich, Rosemary Warmington, Shelly David-Smith and Terry MacDermot.

If you missed the opening, the exhibition is well worth a visit.
