Winning and losing are part of every sport.

How we respond to both is what defines true champions.

Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimović have shown powerful examples of leadership through empathy, humility and compassion. Whether consoling an opponent after victory or offering encouragement after disappointment, they remind us that character matters just as much as talent.

The greatest champions don’t just inspire with what they achieve on the scoreboard—they inspire with how they treat people.

Watching Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk after winning a recent match was a timely reminder of what sport is really about.

Currently ranked No. 13 in the world, she spoke less about winning and more about why she plays the game. She spoke about her love of tennis and her desire to unite people.

Great sportsmanship reminds us that respect for others is bigger than the scoreboard.

During the Australia v Türkiye FIFA World Cup clash in Vancouver, Türkiye defender Merih Demiral paused the contest to help Socceroos striker Mohamed Touré stretch out severe cramp on the field.

Moments like this are what sport should be about — compassion, respect and looking after one another, even in the heat of competition.

At Learning Life Through Sport, we believe real success is measured not only by performance, but by the character we show when the pressure is on.

It was a pleasure to present Learning Life Through Sport to the Senior School students and staff at Unity College today.

Over 150 students and staff came together to explore the importance of sportsmanship, respect and trying your hardest — and the role we all play in creating environments where everyone can thrive.

The students were incredibly engaged throughout the presentation and represented the College with outstanding behavior, polite manners and thoughtful comments as they departed. It was a wonderful reflection of the culture being built within the school community.

A huge thank you to Unity College for the opportunity and a special shout out to Alex, Travis and Scott for their commitment to developing young people and creating great environments where students can continue to grow and thrive. 👏
