South Australian Multicultural Youth Football
The SANFL aims to make football accessible to all South Australian young people. We have numerous programs and opportunities that are fun, interactive and provide excellent engagement for young people and groups who do not necessarily come from traditional Australian Rules Football backgrounds. Programs are tailored with diverse range of staff and volu
nteers who are able to relate their own football journey to participants. SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT
My Footy
SANFL Multicultural Youth Footy program (My Footy) is a 10 week targeted skills program designed to teach Multicultural Youth the basic skills of our game with the purpose to provide information that links participants into their local football clubs. My Footy is focussed on non-English speaking students and can be run in conjunction with The Multicultural Umpiring Academy as part of an afterschool, or during school hours program. New Arrivals Programs (NAP)
The SANFL’s New Arrival Programs (NAP) aim is to grow participation of Australian Rules Football Football. Sessions are run in and out of school hours within New Arrivals (DECD) Schools where staff teach basic skills and knowledge to newly arrived students. This program is a fun and interactive way to break down barriers such as language, shyness and cultural differences. Multicultural Umpiring Academy
The SANFL Multicultural Umpiring Academy (MUA) is a program which delivered to older students in order to create an umpiring pathway. This program is the only product of its type in SA which is managed by the SANFL Umpiring and Diversity Departments. The program has already produced several umpires who now umpire in a paid capacity within the Amateur League. The program is designed to help newly arrived south Australian populations to the game, the role of umpire, and educate in relation to the ongoing SANFL and AFL pathway. TALENT & PATHWAYS
All Nations AFL State side selection
The All Nations Cup is an annual AFL Competition run through the SANFL. The process invites males aged under 15, and born overseas, to demonstrate talent and skills to make it to the State squad. The side is then selected to work as a team over the pre-season and is then prepared to travel to compete in a 12-a-side National competition. The South Australian team is selected in conjunction with the My Footy Program. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Community Ambassadors
Each year the SANFL select community members as Multicultural Community Ambassadors as part of the AFL’s initiative to further engage our multicultural communities. As acknowledged community leaders our Ambassadors promote Australian Rules Football and assist to bridge the gap of understanding between all cultures. Ambassadors have opportunities to work alongside the SANFL Multicultural Officer and South Australia’s AFL Multicultural Ambassador Ali Pate Carlisle at a variety events through the year, in a bid to reach more youth within our communities. AFL Multicultural Community Ambassadors are required to comply with DCSI Child Safe Environment processes and ae inducted into the program by SANFL staff.
