What's going on with these brake pads?
Those tell-tale top ridges happen when a brake caliper or rotor is misaligned: the rotor's only ever contacting part of the pad, not the whole surface.
Left unchecked, that uneven wear gets worse over time. When the rest of the pad wears away completely, all that's left are the ridges. When you hit the brakes, the ridges bridge across the rotor to touch each other (see pic 2 for a handy illustration), but nothing's actually left to grip the rotor and slow you down. π±
Want to find these kinds of issues before they find you? Drop us a line to book, and we'll make sure your brakes won't suddenly surprise you on a descent by going on strike.

βοΈWhy we spec Garbaruk cranksets over stock π€
You might have noticed that a lot of our custom builds (like Pete's Gothic) feature a Shimano or SRAM groupset but use Garbaruk cranks. So... why?
It's not just 'cause they look good (although they clearly do). Garbaruk cranks are light enough to rival carbon but strong enough to outlast it. They're also incredibly stiff. In real-world terms, that means no flex, and no efficiency loss; you get immediate power transfer. Trust us, you'll feel the difference. π
But how light are they, really? At 410g, they're around 300g lighter than a stock Shimano GRX crankset, but tougher and more impact-resistant. Oh, did we also mention they come in multiple lengths, and you can pick your crank arm and lock ring colour?
Cranks are an upgrade that's easy to overlook because it's not as flashy as a paint job or a super-light wheelset, but it makes a genuine difference every single ride. If yours are heavy, flexy or just seem tired, this might be the easiest performance upgrade you're... not thinking about. π
Check them out in-store, or via the BMCR Gear link in the comments. β¬οΈ
Send to a friend, and see who's brave enough to pick a colour option. π

How Pete's Gothic keeps the vampires at bay π§ββοΈ
Look closely. Spotted a theme? Yup: silver, silver, and more silver.
Silver Hope Pro 5 hubs for performance and lightness. Silver Garbaruk cranks, and silver jockey wheels to keep the chain running like butter. A silver Hope seatpost clamp and Garbaruk top cap for even more touches. And, finally, the headset spacers, machined up by Pete here in the shop. (That lathe really does come in handy. π οΈ)
If this Gothic is keeping the night-crawlers away, what's your bike protecting you from? Entertain us in the comments. β¬οΈ
