🌿🐟 Olive Perchlet Update🐟🌿
Last Friday, we received some exciting news following fish monitoring and stocking activities in our water courses.
Fyke nets were set and monitored across our wetlands by Nature Glenelg Trust, with an incredible 750+ Olive Perchlet recorded in Wetland 1 alone. This is a fantastic result and clear evidence that the population is thriving within the habitat that has been created and restored despite the presence of our Penicans!
In addition, Olive Perchlet were also identified in the water feature on hole 13, with further stockings undertaken on the day to strengthen populations and increase genetic diversity.
To support these efforts, more than 3,000 Olive Perchlet were transported from NSW to South Australia and released to assist ongoing the conservation and the breeding program here at Glenelg.
This project demonstrates the important role golf courses can play in protecting and enhancing native ecosystems, creating valuable refuge areas for threatened species while delivering meaningful environmental outcomes.
👏 A fantastic result for everyone involved in this conservation partnership. The R&A Green Adelaide Our Astma Glenelg Golf Club Turf Management SA

First Green STEM: Beyond the Classroom

In collaboration with Australian Sports Turf Managers Association and the Department for Education, Glenelg Golf Club proudly hosted our third Pathways Workshop, welcoming 15 enthusiastic students from Golden Grove High School, Urrbrae Agricultural High School and Bowden Brompton Community School.

Turf Management is so much more than just cutting grass, and the students experienced that firsthand through:
💧 Water Usage & Conservation with Superintendent Tim Warren
🚜 Mowing Magic inside the Mechanical Shed with 2IC Adam Fry
🛠 Tools on the Green with Chris McCullough from ASTMA and Senior Assistant Susan Oliveira
🐝 Bee Conservation and our Course Bee Hives with Monica from Mondees Bees

We wrapped up the day with a fun closest-to-the-pin challenge!

A fantastic opportunity to introduce students to hands-on learning and career pathways within the turf industry.

Our Course Maintenance team has been hard at work over the past few days getting everything ready for the Australian Interstate Teams Matches.

The course is in outstanding condition, and competition is now underway with Rounds 1 and 2 kicking off today. Best of luck to all teams!

The Glenelg Golf Club - Course Maintenance Team stepped up again this long weekend to prepare the course for the women’s qualifying round of the Australian Open Golf.

With the rainfall that we received last week coupled with solid cultural turf programs has the course looking and playing a treat!

Well done to the team for coming in on a long weekend to show the course in its best possible light!

It’s not every day that a three-time major winner like Minjee Lee is on our practice fairway, fine-tuning her game ahead of the Australian Women’s Open at Kooyonga Golf Club this March.

Working alongside Ryan Lumsden, Minjee kindly took the time to grab a photo with our Course Maintenance team.
As a “former” course record holder here at Glenelg (pre course construction), we can’t wait for the day that you return to regain your record! 😉

Best of luck at Kooyonga in March, Minjee! 👏⛳

Last week we were pleased to introduce our annual Course Maintenance Team photo, recognising the hardworking team who keep our course in top condition year-round and completed the 18 hole construction.

To round out the week, our Greenkeeping team enjoyed their Christmas Show at the Edwardstown Bowling Club, a great opportunity to celebrate another successful year together.

We would like to thank the members of Glenelg Golf Club for your patience throughout the construction period. We hope you’re able to enjoy the course and wish you all a wonderful festive season.
