Day 2: Point Turton to Burners Beach Bush Camp
A shorter section of the Walk the Yorke from Point Turton which marks the โtop of the footโ of the peninsular. Ideal weather again for this 13.5km hike. A fair bit of road walking with some beach walking to finish.

This loop walk will start from the carpark at Cleland. We will leave the carpark and head down Long Ridge Track, turn right and head down into Chambers Gully via Bartrill Spur Track. A gentle climb up Chambers Gully Walking Trail leads us to the lookout at Sugarloaf Hill, where we will have some morning tea while admiring the view. From here, we head back towards Cleland on the Long Ridge Track. The walk is 8-9 km and it will probably take 2 1/2 to 3 hours to complete the loop. Carry enough water for the hike and always carry a good raincoat, not only for rain events but to protect yourself from cold winds (chill factor) that may come up during the course of the hike.

The Three Parks Panorama โ Short Version starts at the Ridge Road entrance to Cox Scrub Conservation Park. We start with some road walking to our first crossing of the Finniss River before climbing up to and through the Finniss Conservation Park. From there, itโs on to the Mount Magnificent Conservation Park. If the weather is good, we will have morning tea on the summit. The return journey includes a long, steady meander down Cole Crossing Road and on to our second crossing of the Finniss River (this one might mean wet feet?). After lunch, we enter Cox Scrub Conservation Park, use narrow walking trails and park tracks back to where the cars are parked.

Heysen Trail is posing a challenge for hikers and maintenance volunteers this season. Northern Flinders is experiencing extensive flooding that has closed roads, Parks & the Trail; no access for walkers or volunteers. South coast sections are affected by bushfires with damage to hike-in sites and parts of the Trail. In between the weather has been cold, wet and foggy so our volunteers have had to assess if it's safe to carry out maintenance and definitely rug up when working.
You can help support the Trail by joining The Friends or Donating: https://heysentrail.asn.au/about-the-friends/become-a-member/

Recently End-2-End 18 members spent a wet weekend on the Heysen Trail. Starting in the Barossa Valley at Tanunda they tackled road reserves, passing vineyards, through crop & grazing lands walking towards Kapunda, a former copper mining town.
With their volunteer walk leaders they then headed northwest along back roads & fence lines over the rural undulations of the lower North Mount Lofty Ranges.

We start by walking on some trails in a gully at the northern side of Sturt Gorge, before ascending to a ridge track with undulations. We then descend to the river and start walking the River Trail. We follow the River Trail (with a small detour to the dam wall) until Murrays Hill Road, with multiple crossings of the Sturt River via rocks, some rock scrambling, and plenty of ups and downs. We then return to the cars via some Craigburn Farm tracks (including the lake) and some fire tracks. Interesting rocks in the gorge, scenic trees and river, plenty of birdlife, and the possibility of kangaroos or koalas. If the river level is too high for the crossings, we will walk an alternate route.

Saturday 15th August: Walk 16 The Nugget Rd to Mt Crawford (25km)
On this picturesque and varied walk, youโll pass through several sections of Mount Crawford pine forest and the natural bushland of Warren Conservation Park and Little Mount Crawford.
Sunday 16th August: Walk 17 Mt Crawford to Pewsey Vale (21km)
After climbing Mount Crawford, youโll follow forest edges and roadsides before making your way up and over the pretty Wirra Wirra Peaks. From the Peaks, youโll take a diverse path along creek lines, roads, and road reserves through open big-gum grazing land.
Both of these walks are of moderate-hard difficulty, with undulations and several 100+m elevation climbs and descents on both days. Sundayโs walk is shorter, so we should finish earlier.

Day 1: Burners Beach Bush Camp to Corney Point (21km)
Weaving onto and off the beach, expect the unexpected. The dayโs experience will depend on the weather; the area is known for its rains, so bring your rain jacket. This area is full of history, with Captain Flinders experiencing the howling dogs. Likely the story behind the naming of the Howling Dog Tavern we will end our day at in Corney Point.
Section two: Point Turton to Burners Beach Bush Camp (13 km)
A shorter section of the Walk the Yorke than we have been experiencing. Point Turton marks the โtop of the footโ of the peninsula. What is noticeable, compared to previous sections, is the remoteness. Leaving Point Turton, walking along a track with the ocean on one side and farmland on the other. A notable landmark will be The Drain, an engineering marvel that 20 men dug in the early 1900s. Closer to Point Souttar, we will find ourselves amongst she-oaks and scrubland.

We will start on the northern side of Sturt Gorge at 7:15 for a 7:30 am start and initially head off through Blackwood Hill Reserve along the Magpie Creek Trail into Sturt Gorge. We will do a figure-eight loop utilising different tracks, which will include a walk around the lake before returning to the cars. The walk is approximately 14km so allow 4-5 hrs. There are a few steep sections and several river crossings, so be prepared to get your feet wet. Poles are recommended for those that use them. Please bring plenty of water and a snack, as we will stop for morning tea.

Our journey follows the Shiraz Trail, winding through lush vineyards and farmland, showcasing the regionโs renowned wine culture. The mostly level terrain, with a few gentle inclines, offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the distant coast. As you make your way along the trail, youโll experience the beauty of the Willunga Basin, a fertile and scenic area, before returning for a walk through the charming, historic township of Willunga. This route provides a peaceful and picturesque journey through South Australiaโs wine region, blending history, agriculture, and coastal views.
