Following next Saturdays MONster JUDO competition at Kazoku Judokan, there will be a BBA catch up at the Crown Inn.
Whether you last put the belt on 2 days ago, or 20 years ago, if you’re a South Australian Judo Black Belt, you’re welcome! Of course friends and family are also more than welcome as well.
If you have the time, begin the day by heading in to watch the Monster Judo Competition and show your support for the next generation of judoka.
We can’t make this happen without you spreading the word, so please share this to anyone who may be interested.
Once a black belt, always a black belt.

Congratulations to South Australia’s newest black belt, Mark Fraser (BBA member #34), as well as the promotion of Sean Hesketh to Ni Dan (BBA member #22).
Earning a Dan grade takes enormous commitment. As custodians of this art it’s critical that this remains a coveted achievement by setting the highest of standards.
Both Mark and Sean were tested rigorously with the most comprehensive examination, that lasted for over three hours.
The display of knowledge from both was simply outstanding.
Over 50 people from 5 clubs attended the grading- bringing South Australians together through Judo is what we’re all about.
Thank you to our grading panel-
Kevin Knox (BBA #2) 5th Dan, Former Judo SA President
Jim Bradbury (BBA #4) 4th Dan, Judo SA State Coach
Steve Brown (BBA #5) 4th Dan, Olympian
Bianca Visser (BBA #33) 2nd Dan, Former South African & Australian National Champion

Adelaide coaches, get your kids onto this.
Events that are open to all judoka are not only the ultimate test for competitors, but exemplify exactly what Judo is supposed to be about, and needs to be about if we’re going to grow our great art.

What an amazing opportunity for the our local judoka, with a once in a lifetime chance to learn from one of the best to have done it.
Just as importantly, it was amazing to see so many people from all different clubs unite together and enjoy the session. We need more of this 🤙
Thank you and well done to all involved at Kazoku

Achieving the rank of black belt is one of the most significant moments in a Judoka's life. The culmination of many years, thousands of hours, countless self doubts and set backs.
As custodians of our great art, it is our privilege to give aspiring applicants the opportunity to earn their grade through the most rigorous of examinations. Testing all the knowledge they have acquired, and giving them a chance to showcase the Judo they have crafted through their journey.
Join us on June 14th - Judo Black Belts from the wider SA community are especially welcome and encouraged to attend.

Flash back photo to a state squad training session with Kevin Knox at Scorpion Judo Club, circa 2010ish ~
Some great scraps took place on these mats, with a few people in this pic going on to achieve black belt status.
Got any old pics? Send them through!
