Thanks to all Karateka who turned up for our 3rd fight night in 2026 on Wednesday 12th August.

This was our biggest attended fight night to date with 20 Karateka in attendance on the night.

I would like to reiterate that these nights cover many aspects of your karate journey and whilst they are a fundraising night, they are a great opportunity to try different things within your sparring such as new combinations or just fine tuning the combinations you already have and want to improve.

As regularly stated in class these nights contribute to you as a Karateka through building your confidence, your experience and by sparring with others and seeing what is and isn’t working for you and your opponent as well.

A big thank you to everyone that came on the night and stepped onto the tatami and put in the work.

On Sunday 2nd August both Max Feng and Gobind Grewal stepped onto the tatami at the Matsushima Kyokushin Australia National Championships held in Sydney NSW.

Max placed second in the female intermediate lightweight division
Gobind also placed second in the male novice lightweight division

We are so proud of both of them and their efforts, not only on the day but for all the preparation that goes into getting ready to do so.

We could not be prouder to have them representing our dojo and want to thank them for all their hard work.

We would like to thank Shihan Jim Sklavos and his team of organisers for putting on an amazing event that was very well run.

Lastly a shoutout to Hanshi Gary Viccars and the Viccars Branch for all the support and coaching of our dojo.

Last night was the last class before Max, Mark and Gobind head to Sydney this weekend to take part in the Matsushima Kyoksuhin Australian Championships!

Thank you to all those that have helped in getting them ready for it, but also a huge thanks to both Max Feng and Gobind Grewal for all the hard work they have put in so they can represent our Dojo

Give it your all, and know that we are proud of you for stepping up.

On Wednesday 15th July we had the honour of Shihan Jim Sklavos from Maroubra Kyokushin Karate take our class while in Adelaide for work.

What a fantastic night it was and I am sure everyone in the dojo walked away with something new from the class.

We also had Sempai Pamelia and Sempai Ruben from Brighton Kyokushin Karate and Sempai David Taylor from Kangaroo Island Kyoksuhin Karate join in the class as well which really added to atmosphere.

We held our mid year grading on Saturday 27th June 2026 and on Wednesday 8th July 2026 we got to present certificates and new belts to the following successful candidates:

Mark Prevost - 7th Kyu
Harroop Kaur - 8th Kyu
Kudratpreet Kaur - 8th Kyu
Victor Vergara - 9th Kyu
Andrew Samson - 9th Kyu
Roger Hull -10th Kyu

Congratulations to those who graded, the effort and spirit throughout the entire grading was well and truly evident.

A special thank you to Sempai Ruben from the Brighton Dojo for taking the grading.

What a big couple of weekends its been for the dojo, first the grading, then the Warrnambool OBC tournament only 7 days later making it a great effort by both Harroop & Kudratpreet to grade and compete within 7 days of each other.

Saturday 4th July 2026 Mawson Lakes attended the Open Border Challenge Tournament which was held in Warrnambool Victoria for the first time after being held in Portland Victoria for over a decade.

What a great well run event it was, thank you to everyone involved in making it a memorable day for us and our students.

Gobind Grewal came away with a second place place after a really great fight which even went to an extension and even though he missed out on getting the win against a really tough opponent in Lucas from Knox dojo (Melbourne) he did an amazing job.

A huge congratulations to Harroop & Kudratpreet Kaur who both fought in their first ever tournament coming away with a second and third place between them in the junior colts full contact division, such an awesome effort for their first ever tournament.

We would also like to congratulate the other team from Adelaide, our friends at Brighton Kyokushin Karate also had a really successful day at the tournament, congratulations to all that competed.

Wednesday 17th of June we had our second 25 Fight Night Fundraiser for 2026.

Well done to everyone who came for not only raising money towards the branch but for also listening to what was asked of you and for pushing yourselves to try new combinations, different fight strategies and for continuing to push through your exhaustion and possible self doubts and in turn giving it your all.

Really well done.

Also a special thanks to Sempai Ruben from Brighton Kyokushin Dojo for coming along and sharing his knowledge with everyone.

The Adelaide day seminar conducted by Hanshi Gary Viccars and hosted by Mawson Lakes Dojo (SA) on Saturday 30th May 2026 was a Fantastic day.

It was attended by instructors and students from 9 different dojo’s
Geelong (Vic), Narre Warren (Vic), Forrest (Vic), Warrnambool (Vic), Ipswich (QLD), Brighton (SA) ,Kangaroo Island (SA), Adelaide North (SA) & Mawson Lakes Dojo (SA)

A huge thank you to Hanshi Gary Viccars, Shihan Scott and Sensei Eddie for running the seminar and sharing their Kyokushin knowledge with everyone there.

Also thank you to Sensei Ian, Sempai Julius, Irene, Ken and Graeme for travelling from Victoria to Adelaide to help make it the success it was.

A special thank you to Sempai David, Sempai Andy, Sempai Pamelia, Sempai Ruben, Sempai Max, and Sempai Eli for also travelling and being a part of this seminar and lastly a special thanks to everyone one that was a part of this training, without you all these seminars wouldn't exist.

It was fantastic seeing members of the other MKA Branches attending, we had a total of 42 training and 13 of these where Dan Grades, which is the biggest attendance since they started.

On the day Mark Seager and Yumeng (Max) Feng had their 3rd Kyu Certificates presented to them by Hanshi Gary Viccars, which is something they will remember for a long time to come.

Someone stated on the day, "that if you did not attend, you don't know just how great the training was and how unfortunate for you to be missing out on it"

On May 16th 2026 both Mark & Yumeng (Max) successfully gradedto 3rd Kyu at the senior grading held in Geelong Victoria.
We would like to congratulate both of them on their latest succcess,showing everyone that hard work pays off.

Hopefully this inspires others as we will soon be holding our junior Kyu grading in Adeliaide.
