What is the Every Body Moves event?
This event is designed to help people with and without disabilities to come together and find their next MOVE! This day is designed for Every Body in our community; individuals with disabilities are encouraged to bring their siblings, families, carers, and friends to find local programs in their local environment to join together.
This event is an exciting new initiative of Disability Sports Australia, proudly supported by Bupa as part of our shared commitment to building healthier lives and healthier cities.

On the day:
Falcons Para Ice Hockey will have a stall and activity zone for people to find out more about our sport.

Saturday, 5 September - St Clair Recreation Centre – YMCA, 9am - 12pm
Saturday, 26 September - State Basketball Centre, 10am - 1pm

Introducing Bupa Every Body Moves. 💚

A new national community event series bringing people with and without disability together to connect, belong and get active through sport.

Presented by Bupa through its Healthy Cities initiative and supported by the Australian Sports Commission, Every Body Moves will bring local sporting organisations and community partners together, making it easier to discover activities, meet local clubs and find opportunities to stay active close to home.

These free events welcome people to attend with family, friends, siblings, carers and support networks, creating shared experiences that help make community sport part of everyday life.

🏒 Para Ice Hockey 101 - Body Contact

💥 Is Contact Allowed?

Yes!

Para Ice Hockey is a full-contact sport. Players use their sleds and bodies to legally challenge opponents, making the game fast, physical and incredibly exciting to watch.

Safety equipment is always worn, and referees enforce the rules.

🏒 Para Ice Hockey 101 - How Do Players Move?

💪 Those Sticks Do More Than Shoot!

Players use two sticks with:

🏒 A curved face on one end used for shooting and passing
🪝 Small metal picks on the other.

The picks grip the ice so players can accelerate, stop, turn and spin with incredible speed. Watching experienced players skate is seriously impressive!

🏒 How Does Play Restart?

Every time play stops, a faceoff gets the game going again. The referee drops the puck between two opposing players. Winning the faceoff can give your team an immediate advantage!

🏒 Para Ice Hockey 101 - Penalties

🚨 Penalties Happen!

Just like able-bodied hockey, players can receive penalties for things like:

❌ Hooking
❌ Holding
❌ High sticking

Most penalties are 2 minutes, leaving the team short-handed.

That means more space—and more excitement!

🏒 What is Icing?

If a player shoots the puck from behind the centre red line all the way past the opponent’s hash marks without anyone touching it…

🚨 Icing is called!

Play returns to the defending team’s zone for a faceoff.

This rule stops teams from simply clearing the puck to waste time.
