‼️‼️BREAKING NEWS ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA HAS ITS FIRST MEDAL AT THE NACAC U18 AND U23 CHAMPIONSHIPS‼️

TYRA FENTON WINS SILVER 🥈IN THE GIRLS U18 200M FINALS.

AFTER A DISAPPOINTING 5TH PLACE FINISH IN THE 400M YESTERDAY, FENTON RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE TO CLAIM THE ISLAND FIRST MEDAL IN A TIME OF 23.26sec.

‼️Day 2 Round Up for the athletes competing at the U18 & U23 NACAC Athletics Championships in Mexico‼️

Day 2 saw Geolyna Dowdye competing in the women u23 200m. Finishing 3rd in a time of 23.30sec to book ger spot in the finals.
Craig Prendergast finished in 6th place in the men's 400m Hurdles Finals in a time of 53.24sec.
Kasiya Daley competed in the Men's U23 200m finishing 3rd in a time of 20.66sec to book his spot in the finals, however Daley was later disqualified for a lane infringement.

Day 3 will see Geolyna Dowdye in the womens 200m Finals at 11:45am and Christopher Johnson in the Men's Shot Put at 12:00pm.

We wish the athletes all the very best as the strive to finish on the podium.

‼️ A 5th place finish for young Tyra Fenton in the Girls U18 400m at the NACAC ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS in Mexico on Day 2 ‼️

The multiple Carifta medalist running out of lane 8 gave a fighting effort in the finals of the U18 400m finishingjust outsidethe podium in a time of 54.47sec.

She returned just about two hours later to book her spot in the finals of the Girls U18 200m finals after winning heat 1 in a time of 23.70sec.

Finals will be run today at 12:15pm local time.

Congratulations to young Fenton and we wish her all the very best as she strive for Gold in the 200m Finals.

‼️Action got underway in Tlaxcala, Mexico earlier today with a number of athletes hitting the track. ‼️

First up was the womens U23 100m featuring National Champion - Geolyna Dowdye - who won her semifinal in 11.54 seconds to advance to the finals. In the finals, Dowdye finished in 4th position in a time of 11.27 seconds.
Men's sprint duo -Kasiya Daley and Dwayne Fleming - competed in the Men's U23 100m. Daley posted a time of 10.62sec in Heat 1 but did not advance to the finals. Fleming posted a time of 10.40 to finish 3rd in heat 2 and advanced to the final.
During the final, however, Fleming felt some discomfort midway through the race, hampering his chances of a medal despite leading the race at 40 metres.

The Girls U18 400m saw Tyra Fenton finishing 3rd in heat 1 in a time of 56.27 advancing to the finals. The final is scheduled to run at 12:30pm local time tomorrow (July 11).
Kettia Ambrose finished 5th in Heat 2 of the Women's 23 version, running a time of 55.69. Unfortunately, she did not advance to the final.
Action continues tomorrow with the 400m final for Fenton; 200m Heats for Fenton, Dowdey and Daley; and the Men's U23 400m Hurdles Final for Craig Prendergast.

The ABAA wishes Fleming a speedy recovery and continue to wish the competing athletes all the very best.

While one team represented at the OECS Championships in St. Kitts, one athlete - Kamar Thomas - represented at the Caricom 10k in St. Lucia, with a 3rd place finish.

‼️400m hurdler - Craig Prendergast - finished in the Bronze medal position in the one lap event.‼️

After falling on the last hurdle, Prendergast showed true strength and determination to get up and finished the race to claim a medal.

Congratulations to Prendergast, definition of strength, determination and competitiveness.

‼️Antigua and Barbuda captures Bronze in the Men's 1500m in 4:29.96‼️

Shawn'ze Joseph, still only a junior athlete at 15 years old, stepped up to the men's open event and ran bravely to finish in the top 3.

Compatriot - Devon James - finished 4th in a time of 4:36.27.

Congratulations to both Athletes.

Geolyna Dowdye (11.47) Silver and Soniya Jones (11.65) Bronze.
Event was won by Jady Emmanuel of St Lucia in a time of 11.39sec.

A special moment for these ladies and Antigua and Barbuda as these medals were presented by our very own, Daniel Bakka Bailey National Record Holder and OECS Championships Record Holder of 10.19 which has stood since 2014.
