Ultimately, the gamble we spoke about before the first leg against LASK proved to be exactly that - a gamble. Another European failure overseen by an ultra-conservative Celtic board.

Desmond Jr, during his AGM address to the subjects he appears to think we are, spoke about the consequences of “swinging and missing” in the transfer market. I wonder what he makes of swinging and missing on Champions League qualification six times - failures estimated to have cost the club around £250 million.

If ever there were a time to carry on and sign our top targets, regardless of that failure, it is now. We need to kick on for the season ahead, both domestically and in Europe, while building a team capable of going into next season’s two Champions League qualifying rounds properly prepared, rather than scrambling around again when they arrive.

Champions League Qualifier

Can’t remember ever going into a game 3–0 up on aggregate and still feeling like it’s on a knife-edge. That’s the scars from all the previous failures doing that to us.

Loved O’Neill’s interview yesterday. No joking around. Game face on and ready to go.

This mob had some chances last week, so we need to be switched on from the start. With the front three plus Nygren on the pitch, we’ll get chances to score.

It’s an 11.00pm kick-off here in Dubai, so it’s another tough one midweek with work tomorrow. However, there’ll once again be a few hardy souls down to cheer on the Hoops.

Champions League Qualifier: Celtic v LASK

I was pulled up on X for my poor understanding of the Farmer’s Almanac and Scotland’s official sunset timetable after saying we were looking forward to watching Celtic away to Dundee United under the lights at Tannadice on Saturday, so apologies for that 😂😂

With an 8.00pm kick-off in Glasgow, we will definitely be playing under the lights tonight at Paradise in a huge Champions League qualifier against LASK.

I think everyone would agree that, with Engels leaving, Chamberlain suspended and Baur only through the door, we are desperately short in the middle of the park.

Gambling is the Celtic board’s way, and when you look back at the horror shows of years gone by: AEK in 2018/19, Cluj in 2019/20, Ferencváros in 2020/21, Midtjylland in 2021/22 and Kairat in 2025/26, you have to wonder why they continue to play with fire.

It’s an 11.00pm kick-off here tonight and, as always, the game will be shown live at McGettigan’s DWTC, home of the Dubai Hoops.

A quick reminder about matchday arrangements.

We love seeing the club busy and are always delighted to welcome members, non-members and guests to watch the games with us at McGettigan’s DWTC.

With several big matches ahead, we’re already receiving messages asking to book places and tables weeks in advance. Please remember that we do not take table bookings for matches or add names to the list weeks beforehand.

For the busiest games, we will begin taking names during the week of the match once all arrangements have been confirmed with McGettigan’s.

Paid Dubai Hoops members will be allocated upstairs, with non-members and guests accommodated in the main bar.

All information on how to add your name will be posted across our social media and WhatsApp channel during the week of the game, so please keep an eye out for the relevant update.

We receive a large number of messages asking about advance bookings and, unfortunately, I cannot reply individually to every request. It isn’t a case of being ignorant or not wanting to help, running the social media pages is not a full-time job, and the same information is shared publicly before every big match.

Please wait for the matchday announcement rather than messaging weeks in advance. Once it is posted, everyone will have the same opportunity to add their name.

Dundee United v Celtic

After last Sunday’s five-star showing and the arrival of two new signings, we can’t wait for tonight’s match under the lights at Tannadice.

Engels looks set to move on, and good luck to the lad. The arrivals of Baur and Hassan, added to what we saw from Duran and Hogh last weekend, have certainly whetted the appetite - but we can’t stop there.

It feels like only a couple of weeks ago that Osmand was running through on goal to secure five in a row and send McInnes and the Jambos into complete meltdown.

However, the new season and the start of our defence of the league title is already upon us.

After all the chaos of this season… a horrific summer (and January) transfer window, the Kairat embarrassment, Rodgers leaving, the AGM with Lawwell talking to grown adults like a school rector speaking to children, Ross Desmond telling us his Daddy is a bigger Tim than Paul, appointing Nancy in what has to be the most shambolic appointment in our history, only to run back to O’Neill to bail them out again… it all comes down to this.

A 90-minute shoot-out versus Hearts.

When the coolest man in Scotland slotted that ball away on Wednesday night at 90+8, we rattled the cages of some of the worst people in football and beyond.

From McCoist & Jordan on TalkSport, to David Tanner on X, Alex Rae on Clyde and let’s not forget perma-tan McInnes and his outbursts… it’s been magnificent listening.

Now we stand one win away from one of the most unlikely Championships ever - and one that would take us to 5 in a row.

The fallout afterwards has been outstanding viewing, though. Boyd and Robertson on Sky were brilliant entertainment. I’m hearing Stevenson and English on BBC Radio Scotland were just as delightful.

Not a word about the Maeda penalty in the first half though… funny that.

Anyway - 90 minutes and 3 points away from winning the league.

Sunday was incredible. The Dubai Hoops CSC was jumping. Around 160 downstairs and another 80 upstairs.

When it’s mattered since the split, we’ve turned up and that’s what’s needed again tonight. If we turn up, we’ll get a result. This Celtic team, playing at the level they did on Sunday, wins well tonight.

Anything less than that and we’re in for a hard night.

Massive game tonight. Not the easiest kick-off with work tomorrow, but I still reckon there’ll be a good crowd in the club.
