For years I did everything right.

Trained hard, ate clean, slept eight hours.

Still flat. Still soft in the middle.

The problem was never effort. It was sequence.

Cortisol first. Then insulin. Testosterone follows both — it’s the last domino, not the first.

Fix them out of order and nothing moves, no matter how hard you train.

That’s why Sunday matters more than Monday.

It sets the trajectory for the week.

The five steps are in the post. Save them.

But that protocol assumes cortisol is your bottleneck.

For a lot of men over 40 it’s insulin — and if that’s you, the order changes.

You can be disciplined and still be flat.

Discipline was never the variable.

I walked one grocery store and photographed everything men are told is “healthy.”

Sugar with a fitness mascot is still sugar.

Your insulin doesn’t read marketing.

Fasted training works. So does eating before you lift.

The mistake isn't picking one. It's not knowing which one your body actually needs right now.

For some men, fasted is exactly right. It depends on the goal, the bloodwork, the stress load, the sleep, what you're building this quarter.

But when the session is heavy and the outcome is performance, I fuel first.

Banana. Rice cakes. Honey. A pinch of sea salt.

Simple carbs the body converts to usable energy in minutes. Sodium to prime the muscle and hold water where it belongs.

No supplement. No powder. No $90 tub of something you can't pronounce.

The right fuel, at the right time, for the right goal.

Most men guess.

The ones who get results stop guessing and start matching the input to the outcome.

That principle doesn't stop at pre-workout. It's how every decision about your body should be made after 40 — matched to your data, not borrowed from someone half your age.

You didn’t lose discipline. You lost the loop.

After 40, most men train harder and get less back.

Waking up at 3AM with your mind racing isn’t stress.

It’s timing.

Your cortisol is supposed to bottom out at midnight and peak at 6AM to wake you.

Under chronic pressure, that rise comes hours too early — and jolts you awake at 3.

You can’t fix it by relaxing more. You fix it with what you do during the day.

Four levers that re-anchor your clock:
�→ Carbs at dinner�→ Cool the room to 18°C�→ Caffeine cutoff at noon�→ Sunlight in your eyes within 30 minutes of waking

Fix the timing, and the sleep fixes itself. So does the cortisol belly fat that came with it.

Your supplement bill is too high.

Nature already solved most of your needs.

Fix the basics before you buy another pill.

I personally take 4 to 5 supplements daily, as it’s not always possible to get everything from nature, especially in today’s world.

But I see way too many people prioritizing supplements and spending hundreds of dollars every month and then sleep 5h, drink alcohol, eat junk food and don’t hydrate properly.

Fix the basics and supplement strategically.
