Master Breaking Putts ⬇️

Use a string line to separate your start line from the ball’s curved path 👇

1️⃣ Find a breaking putt and choose your intended entry speed.

2️⃣ Set the string above the ball, pointing along your chosen start line—not directly at the hole.

3️⃣ Start the ball beneath the string and let the slope move it away.

4️⃣ If you start it on line but miss, reassess your read and speed.

5️⃣ Remove the string and recreate the same putt to test your learning.

The string shows where to START the ball. Your read and speed determine where it finishes. 👊

Want to start more putts on line? 🎯

Combine a chalk line with a putter gate in your practice.

The chalk line gives you a clear visual reference for your intended start line, while the gate gives you instant feedback on whether you’re actually delivering the ball where you’re aiming.

✅ Builds start-line awareness
✅ Improves putter-face control
✅ Gives immediate feedback
✅ Removes guesswork from practice
✅ Builds confidence on short putts

Start with a wider gate and gradually make it tighter as your accuracy improves.

Correct putting tempo when practising short putts ⏱️

Short putts are about maintaining consistent rhythm under pressure.

On short putts, the goal is simple: repeatable tempo → predictable face control → better start lines.

If every golfer knew these 10 things, they would RARELY 3-putt… 👀⛳️

1️⃣ Speed is more important than line from long range — poor pace creates most 3-putts.

2️⃣ Read the final third first — this is where the ball is moving slowest and breaking the most.

3️⃣ Pick an entry speed — your read changes depending on how fast you want the ball reaching the hole.

4️⃣ Know your uphill vs downhill adjustments — the same length putt can require completely different energy.

5️⃣ Focus on proximity, not holing it — from long range, your priority is making the second putt easy.

6️⃣ Build a consistent strike — off-centre contact destroys predictable distance control.

7️⃣ Match stroke length to distance — don’t manipulate speed by suddenly hitting the ball harder.

8️⃣ Practice breaking lag putts — straight putts don’t prepare you for what you actually face on the course.

9️⃣ Train from 30–60 feet — most golfers spend far too much time practising distances they’re already comfortable with.

🔟 Become automatic inside 3–4 feet — great lag putting means nothing if you can’t clean up the second putt.

3-putt avoidance is a SKILL — and it can be trained. 🎯

Too many golfers stand over the ball still thinking about mechanics, line or speed.

Instead, have one simple trigger that tells your brain it’s time to trust your read and roll the ball.

The best players all have a trigger that shifts them from thinking to performing.

Find one that works for you, stick to it, and use it on every putt.

💬 What’s your pre-putt trigger? Let me know below.

PUTTER FACE IS KING 👑

At impact, face angle has a much bigger influence on where the ball starts than club path.

You can have a imperfect stroke path and still start the ball on line if the face is controlled.

But if the face is open or closed at impact? You’re immediately fighting your start line.

Stop chasing the “perfect” path and start learning to control the face. 🎯

Face controls start line. Path plays a supporting role.

BLADE vs MALLET PUTTERS ⛳️

Which one is right for you? 👀

🔹 Blade Putters
• More traditional look
• Typically more toe hang options
• Greater feel and feedback
• Suits players who prefer a compact head

🔸 Mallet Putters
• Higher MOI = more forgiveness
• More stable on off-centre strikes
• Easier alignment for many golfers
• Often suits players wanting more stability

The best putter is the one that helps you aim it, start it and roll it consistently.
