🥋 FROM DIALOGUE TO ACTION: GUARDIAN GIRLS JU-JITSU 🇲🇾
As part of the Southeast Asia Women Citizen Dialogue (SEA-WCD Malaysia), Guardian Girls Ju-Jitsu was proud to take the conversation on women’s safety and empowerment from the stage onto the mats.
Representing Guardian Girls Ju-Jitsu and the Malaysia Ju-Jitsu Federation (MJJF), Cassandra J. Poyong and Izwani Ismail led a Ju-Jitsu demonstration followed by a practical women’s self-defence seminar for female students from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
The session introduced participants to practical self-defence skills while demonstrating an important principle behind Guardian Girls: empowerment is not only about having a voice — it is also about having the confidence, awareness and skills to protect yourself.
Through Ju-Jitsu, the students had the opportunity to learn techniques designed to help them respond to threatening situations, while developing confidence in their own physical capabilities.
Earlier in the programme, Cassandra also joined the “Safe to Compete, Strong to Lead” forum, sharing the perspective of women in combat sports and contributing to the wider conversation around the challenges facing female athletes and the importance of creating environments where women can participate, compete and lead.
For MJJF, this is exactly what Guardian Girls Ju-Jitsu represents: taking the knowledge within our sport beyond competition and using it as a practical tool to help women and girls become safer, stronger and more confident.
We are incredibly proud to see Ju-Jitsu playing its part in this important movement — and this is only the beginning. 🥋💪🇲🇾

🥋 MALAYSIA JU-JITSU FEDERATION JOINS GUARDIAN GIRLS MALAYSIA 🇲🇾
The Malaysia Ju-Jitsu Federation is proud to be part of the official launch of Guardian Girls Malaysia — an international initiative bringing together government, international organisations, academia and Malaysia’s combat sports community to advance the safety, empowerment and leadership of women and girls.
As a member organisation of Guardian Girls Malaysia, MJJF will lead the development of Guardian Girls Ju-Jitsu, using the skills and principles of Ju-Jitsu to equip women and girls with practical self-defence skills while building confidence, resilience and greater awareness of their own ability to protect themselves.
Leading this commitment for MJJF are Datuk Benjamin Ong, President of the Malaysia Ju-Jitsu Federation, Joy Tay, Secretary General of Guardian Girls Malaysia and Cassandra J. Poyong, Head Instructor, who will play key roles in developing and delivering Ju-Jitsu-based women’s self-defence training under the Guardian Girls platform.
Through Guardian Girls Ju-Jitsu, we want to make self-defence accessible to more women and girls across Malaysia — not simply by teaching techniques, but by helping participants develop the confidence to respond, the knowledge to protect themselves and the strength to stand up for themselves and others.
The launch marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our Federation as we take Ju-Jitsu beyond competition and use our sport as a practical tool for safety, confidence and empowerment.
We look forward to working alongside Guardian Girls Malaysia and our fellow combat sports organisations to bring these programmes to communities across the country.
Stronger women. Safer communities. 🇲🇾🥋

What a great day for the Malaysian Adults Team as Cheah Wen Khyn, Thew Chin Hong, Peter Chong and Jic Chia Ho Yee fought incredibly hard to bring home 4 bronze medals for Malaysia. These individuals are seasoned athletes and their years of dedication and resilience were evident in their skilful performances on the mat.
