CHILI FC ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS WITH GRITTY 1-0 WIN

Gweru- CHILI FC advanced to the semi-finals of the ZMP GOLDEN MINES OCTA KNOCKOUT with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Takawira FC at Bata Stadium in a midweek match.

The match was a tense "brothership derby" between two sides operating under the same Club President.

Ronald Mazivofa’s Chili side took an early lead through Taonana "Chibhuru" Anesu and looked in control until the second half. The game turned when the referee issued three red cards to Chili players reducing them to 10 and then 8 men.

Despite being three players down, Chili defended resolutely.Heroic goalkeeper Munyawu Pride produced a string of crucial saves to deny Takawira FC and preserve the clean sheet.

Takawira pushed for an equalizer but failed to break down the 8-man defense. The result keeps Chili’s unbeaten run alive in the $7,000 knockout tournament.

Speaking after the match, Takawira FC coach Nyengera Emmanuel admitted his side missed key chances,

"The boys played well, but we failed to come back even when playing against 8 men. We knew we were going to face a difficult team but we lost many chances in the second half. We are also not used to playing on a ground like Bata Stadium, and that might have contributed to our loss,"he said.

Chili FC coach Mazivofa praised his players’ character despite the officiating,

"It was a tense game, but it’s a compliment to my boys. They fought to the final whistle despite the situation," he said.

Chili now turn their attention to a tough semi-final assignment in the Golden Mines OCTA KNOCKOUT.

Manyama FC defeating Flame Lilly FC 4-2 on penalties while Chiponjeka FC beats Hardrock Legends 2-0 and Zialanda Mine FC edged Gothic FC 3-4 on penalties

The tournament aims to promote football at grassroots level and clean, safe sport.
