Can anything good come from here? Chauya Chikara and Mutemera say yes.
By Hector Tafadzwa Chifamba
For Tenax Football Club head coach Gibson Mutemera, June was not just about results, it was about purpose, faith, and proving that something good can come from where people least expect it.

Mutemera clinched the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League Coach of the Month for June after guiding Tenax to an unbeaten run: 4 wins, 1 draw, 8 goals scored, 2 conceded, and 13 points from a possible 15.
Speaking exclusively to Eastern Storm, the gaffer was quick to deflect the praise.
“I’m very much happy and excited to be honored in this manner. I would like to thank the Almighty for his guidance, team Tenax as a whole for being united for a purpose,” said Mutemera.
He went on to stress that the award belongs to everyone at the club:
“This award means a lot to me, my Technical team, players, supporters and Management, because I cannot do this alone and this shows a lot of purpose in whatever we are doing in our dressing room. I would like to urge everyone involved in the Team Tenax operations to continue doing good, because as a team the sky is the limit.”
That sense of unity, he explained, is rooted in determination and in faith.
Reflecting on what has driven the team, Mutemera pointed to the hunger within the squad:
“Determination from everyone involved, the zeal and willingness to achieve is driving everyone. We have done this before and that is what is pushing everyone.”
For a club with limited resources, he added, belief has become their biggest asset:
“We don't have much as an institution, but we are driven by the verse in the Bible which says 'Can something good come out from Nazareth.' So everyone is determined.”
It’s John 1:46. Nathanael’s question when he heard about Jesus. Philip’s answer: “Come and see.”
That’s the Chauya Chikara mindset right now. Don’t talk. Show.
Looking ahead to the second half, Mutemera says the approach will remain unchanged.
On the club’s plans, he noted:
“We will continue working hard as a team. Some few additions in areas we find ourselves short, and trying to balance all the factors that determine performance, but concentrating more on what we can control. The rest we leave it to the Almighty.”
And finally, he reserved his biggest praise for the heartbeat of the club.
On the role of the dressing room and supporters, Mutemera concluded:
“Our dressing room is the key factor behind everything. Our supporters are always there for us, and we want to make them proud. We will keep working hard so that we don't disappoint them. Because they have a lot of faith in us.”
June belonged to Chauya Chikara, with faith as their foundation and unity as their weapon, Mutemera and his team are now asking the rest of the PSERSL one question: Come and see.

PSERSL Board pays tribute to Renco Mine FC sponsors: "You Revived Hope."
The football was good on Saturday at Maramba Stadium.
But the real story for the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League began on Sunday morning.

Fresh off witnessing Great Zimbabwe University FC beat Renco Mine FC 2-0 in the Game of the Month, the entire PSERSL Board did not leave Renco Mine just yet.
Led by Chairman Wisdom Simba, the delegation made a courtesy call that meant more than any result on the pitch.
Accompanied by Vice Chairman Gray Hama, Board Member for Development Rodgers Banda, and Regional Administrator Fungai Munyoro-Chingaira, Chairman Simba sat down with the chief sponsors of Renco Mine FC.
The message was simple: Thank you.
Just 12 months ago, this club, and this community, were in a dark place. When the mine temporarily ceased operations, Renco Mine FC was left without a sponsor for large parts of last season. Players left. Fans drifted. The future was uncertain.
That changed late last year.
New management and new sponsors came in. They revived operations at the mine. They revived the club. Today, the machinery at Renco Mine is fully operational again.
Speaking on behalf of the Board, Chairman Simba did not mince his words.
"We came here today to say thank you," Simba said.
"You have revived the hopes and careers of this football-loving Renco Mine community. When you brought this mine back to life, you also brought football back to life."
He promised the sponsors the league’s full support.
"We will go the extra mile with you to develop football in this community. Because when football is strong here, the whole Eastern Region is strong."
Vice Chairman Hama echoed the sentiment, noting the Board’s commitment to work with the sponsors on youth and development programs.
Banda, who heads development, said the league sees Renco as a "key pillar" for growing the game in the province.
For the sponsors, it was a reminder that their investment goes beyond the balance sheet. It’s about jobs, identity, and pride.
Saturday’s 2-0 loss to GZU didn’t dampen the mood. If anything, it showed why the work matters. Maramba was full. The team fought. The community turned up.
As the Board left Renco on Sunday, one thing was clear: Renco Mine FC is no longer a club fighting to survive. It’s a club being built to thrive.
And that revival started with a decision made off the pitch.

Buffaloes stun La Deportivo LAA Murambinda at home.
Deportivo La Murambinda’s title credentials suffered a devastating blow at Uhera Stadium as they fell to a 0-1 home defeat against Buffaloes FC.
Kumbirai Katsande struck in the 26th minute to hand Buffaloes all three points and inflict La Murambinda’s second home loss of the season. It could not have come at a worse time with the race for promotion heating up.
Buffaloes also picked up cautions for Kit Manager Lifa Calvin for dissent, Simon Nyama, Byron Mushonga and Nashin Magada for delaying the restart. Performance Analyst Amon Chimbalanga was sent off for abusive language.
For Buffaloes and coach Nyarai Masunde, it was a welcome and timely response after their recent humbling defeat away at Green Fuel FC.
The match was handled by centre referee Innocent Matuku, assisted by Tendai Mlambo and Glenda Chanakira. Tatenda Bvekerwa was the match commissioner.
Man of the Match: Simon Nyama, Enock Sackey.
AMV roar back into contention.
Africa Mineral Ventures Football Club reignited their title push with an energizing 0-3 away win over FC Wangu Mazodze at Mucheke Stadium.
Tanaka Dhlakama opened the scoring in the 13th minute, Adam Tende doubled the lead in the 40th, and super-sub Chikomo Simbarashe wrapped it up with a superb free-kick in the 71st minute.
Wangu’s Arnold Dirau was booked for a reckless challenge, while AMV’s Keita Marera and Maxwell Manuvire also saw yellow.
The game was marred by a worrying incident in the 49th minute when FC Wangu Mazodze's goalkeeper Nico Fish was injured in a collision with the goalpost and had to be ferried to hospital by City of Masvingo Mayor His Worship Alec Tabe. Play was stopped for ten minutes.
Persuade Mandiki was the man in the middle, with Madembo Nyusa and Fambisai Mudukuti as assistants. Jimmy Makwanda served as commissioner.
Man of the Match: Learnmore Muyambo [AMV], Nicholas Muchadeyi[FC Wangu Mazodze].
Grand Legacy woes continue at Lithium
Grand Legacy FC’s struggles away at Bikita continued as they suffered another damaging 0-1 loss to Bikita Chida Athletic Club at Lithium Stadium.
Blessing Wyson scored the only goal in the 40th minute to seal the win for the home side. Bikita Chida’s Jefta Mabugu was sent off after the final whistle for violent conduct.
The Murehwa side have now found no joy at the Lithium venue this season. Across all competitions, this was their third defeat there, two to Bikita Minerals FC, and now one to Bikita Chida.
Munyaradzi Bakayawo was the referee on the day.
Man of the Match: Tinenyasha Masikati [Bikita Chida], Diego Makurumidze [Grand Legacy].

AMV outclass Kingdom Boys to secure convincing away win.

Africa Mineral Ventures Football Club underlined their title credentials in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League with a ruthless 3-0 victory over FC Wangu Mazodze at Mucheke Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides came into the clash on the back of identical goalless draws, but it was AMV FC who shook off the rust quickest. They were clinical, composed, and ruthless in punishing every mistake by the hosts to walk away with all three points.
While FC Wangu Mazodze enjoyed spells of possession and showed flashes going forward, it was the visitors who displayed the discipline and cutting edge that ultimately decided the contest.
The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Tanaka Dhlakama capped AMV’s bright start with a well-taken finish, silencing the home crowd and giving the visitors an early foothold.
The Kingdom Boys tried to respond through Solomon Banka, whose long-range effort was comfortably gathered by the AMV goalkeeper.
Moments later, a slick combination between Frederick Gweshe and Banka threatened to unlock the visitors’ defence, but AMV stood firm and cleared the danger.
At the other end, goalkeeper Lee Madziro produced a fine save to keep FC Wangu Mazodze in the game, but the hosts’ resistance was broken again five minutes before halftime.
Adam Tende struck in the 40th minute to double AMV’s lead and send the visitors in at the break with a commanding 2-0 advantage.
The second half was overshadowed by concern after substitute goalkeeper Nico Fish, introduced at the restart, suffered an injury that forced a lengthy stoppage.
With no ambulance available at Mucheke Stadium, he was rushed to hospital in Masvingo by City Mayor His Worship Alec Tabe.
Any hopes of a comeback were extinguished in the 71st minute when super-sub Chikomo Simbarashe bent in a superb free-kick from outside the box, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and stretching AMV’s lead to 3-0.
To their credit, FC Wangu Mazodze kept pushing for a consolation, but AMV’s disciplined defensive display ensured the clean sheet remained intact until the final whistle.
For his tireless work in midfield, Learnmore Muyambo was named AMV FC Man of the Match, while FC Wangu Mazodze’s Nicholas Muchadeyi earned his side’s accolade for a determined individual display despite the defeat.
A deflated FC Wangu Mazodze coach Martin Nyanzira cut a frustrated figure after the loss.
“I’m very disappointed. The boys failed to handle the pressure from the visitors. We got chances but didn’t capitalise. I hope we will bounce back next game,” he said.
AMV FC head coach Collins Chinyani said the focus remains firmly on the title race.
“We came from a draw last week and knew we needed to win this game to stay in the title race,”he said.
“To score three goals and keep a clean sheet gives us confidence. We hope to win our next game and stay close to the top.”
“Our objective remains the same: to keep winning our games and not focus on what others are doing.”
Chinyani added that despite the win, his side must improve their efficiency in front of goal.
The result takes AMV FC to 35 points, while FC Wangu Mazodze remain on 15 points.
