"We go to Uhera to compete" - Kwangwari targets result as Gusha Bhora face Feruka Boys in Game of the Month

Mutare City Rovers FC General Manager Johannes Kwangwari says his side are heading to Uhera Stadium with one clear objective: to be difficult to beat and come away with a result against 5th-placed Deportivo LAA Murambinda in Saturday’s Week 25 Game of the Month.

Deportivo are flying and chasing a top spot on home soil in Murambinda, while Rovers sit 10th on 27 points after 23 games. But Kwangwari insists the form book counts for little in a fixture of this magnitude.

Kwangwari opened by showing respect for the hosts, but made it clear Rovers will not go to Murambinda just to make up the numbers. "First, we respect Deportivo. They are 5th, they are chasing the title, and they are on a very good run. It’s why it’s the Game of the Month. For us at Rovers, every game is important. But yes, against a top-5 side away, getting a result here would be massive for our confidence and for the log. Our expectation is simple: we go to Uhera to compete. We go to be organized, to be disciplined, and to make sure Mutare City Rovers is difficult to beat. If we do that, we give ourselves a chance to get something from the game."

With 12 games left, Rovers are mid-table but Kwangwari says the focus has now shifted to finishing strongly and building for next season. "Look, 10th with 27 points after 23 games and we are not where we want to be, but we are also not where we feared we could be. It’s been a season of growth, injuries, and learning for this group. With 12 games left, the realistic target from management is clear. First, we must secure our status in the league as early as possible. After that, the target is to finish in the top 8. 27 points plus a strong finish can get us there. The most important thing now is consistency. If we can pick up 4 to 5 wins from the remaining 12, we will finish the season strongly and build momentum for next year."

Deportivo’s George Adu has been one of the standout players in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League this season. Kwangwari says the technical team have a clear plan to nullify the threat. "George Adu is a top player. Deportivo have several. That’s why they are up there. From a technical perspective, the coaches have been working on two things this week. One, our defensive shape and transitions. Against a good attacking team you must be compact. Two, our belief. We’ve told the boys that form goes out the window in games like this. We can’t control George Adu. But we can control our work rate, our organization, and our desire. If we match them for intensity for 90 minutes at Uhera, we can upset anyone."

Kwangwari ended with a direct message to the Rovers faithful expected to make the trip to Murambinda. "To all Mutare City Rovers supporters traveling to Murambinda on Saturday: Thank you. We know it’s not an easy trip. We see you, and we need you. Uhera is going to be full and loud. Be our 12th man. Come in your colors and get behind the boys from minute 1 to 90. A strong finish means everything for our ambitions. It means we finish with pride, we give our sponsors Pacific Storm and fans something to be proud of, and we build a foundation to push higher next season. We owe the supporters that."

With Deportivo pushing for promotion and Rovers chasing a top 8 finish, Saturday’s clash at Uhera promises fireworks. One team hunting glory, the other hunting an upset.
