Livingstone Pirates Football Club.โ€™s journey towards the new season continued with another encouraging display of intensity, discipline, tactical organisation and game management as The Thunder Boys secured a 2โ€“1 victory over Faz Division Three side Zesco Academy in a pre-season friendly played yesterday.

The 90-minutes encounter was structured to provide valuable match fitness to the entire squad, with both teams fielding different sets of players in each half. The arrangement also gave the respective technical benches an opportunity to assess player combinations, test tactical systems and fine-tune their preparations ahead of next weekendโ€™s season openers in different divisios.

From the opening whistle, Livingstone Pirates adopted a high-intensity approach, pushing Zesco Academy deep and applying sustained pressure on their build-up play. Both sides enjoyed periods of possession and showed glimpses of attacking quality, producing an entertaining contest that drew the attention of both technical benches and a sizeable crowd.

Despite the intensity and chances created at either end but most from the hosts, neither side managed to break the deadlock, with the opening 45 minutes ending goalless.

The second half brought a fresh dimension to the contest as both teams introduced new personnel, injecting renewed energy and intensity into the game. Zesco Academy were first to find the breakthrough when Boyd Ahazi rose highest inside the box to meet a corner and powered a free header into the net to put the visitors ahead.

Livingstone Pirates, however, responded with composure and purpose. The equaliser came through the right back Francis Phiri, who produced a superb finish from outside the 18-yard box following a neat interchange of passes involving Charles Chewe, bringing the score level at 1โ€“1.

Rather than allowing the momentum to shift, The Thunder Boys continued to press aggressively and looked to force Zesco Academy into defensive errors and that pressure paid dividends approximately ten minutes later.

A sustained high press forced Zesco Academy into conceding corner after corner and the Thunder Boys capitalised from one the resulting set-pieces as Astin Phiri rose above the defenders to head home and complete the turnaround.

The final whistle confirmed a 2โ€“1 victory for Livingstone Pirates, but the significance of the encounter extended well beyond the result as the friendly provided the technical team with valuable competitive minutes, tactical lessons, opportunities for squad rotation, physical conditioning and the chance to assess different combinations and formations.

With the 2026 Transition League season fast approaching, The Thunder Boys will take plenty of positives from the performance as preparations continue.

If commitment was a person.

For years, Bonga Poniso Liseli has been more than just a player at Livingstone Pirates Football Club. He has been one of the many players who are a symbol of loyalty, consistency and commitment to the badge. Since arriving from Katima Border Stars, he has remained part of the Thunder Boys family, standing with the club through both the highs and the difficult moments.

Football careers can take players to different places, but Poniso's connection with the Pirates badge has never wavered. Season after season, he has continued to give his best, proudly representing the club and embracing what it means to be a Pirate.

His journey is a reminder that commitment is not only measured by goals, appearances or trophies, but also by the willingness to stay, work hard and remain dedicated to the cause.

His a true servant of Livingstone Pirates not only for what he does on the pitch, but for the loyalty he has shown to the club over the years. A player who continues to wear the badge with pride.

Livingstone Pirates Football Club. continued their preparations with a convincing 4โ€“1 victory over FAZ Division Three South side Mwandi Strikers S A at The Boiling Point, Maramba Stadium. The match provided another important test as The Thunder Boys continue to build towards the 2026 Transition League campaign.

Played over three 45-minute halves, It was a high intensity with pace and physically demanding encounter which provided another valuable test for the Thunder Boys as the technical bench assessed the team's fitness, structure, combinations and ability to maintain intensity throughout the contest. Exactly the type of environment needed at this stage of preparation.

As the game progressed, Livingstone Pirates Football Club began to assert greater control. The pressure increased, the attacking phases became more consistent and Pirates spent long periods playing in the opposition half. Poniso Liseli eventually opened the scoring in the first half before captain Bornface Moono doubled the advantage in the second.

The Mwandi strikers goalkeeper was increasingly called into action for most periods of time, while the defensive unit found itself under sustained pressure as third half produced further action, with Kabuya Kabwe making it 3โ€“0. It was a positive indication of the team's ability to grow into a contest, maintain intensity and push the opposition backwards as the game developed.

Mwandi Strikers pulled one back from the penalty spot through Alvin Mutame in the process, but Kelz Muchindu restored Pirates' three-goal cushion to complete the 4โ€“1 victory. There were positive signs in the way the team approached the contest. The structure remained organised, the attitude remained positive and the players continued to work collectively through the demands of the game.

The value of a preseason match is not measured only by the final result. But by the questions it asks, the responses it produces and the lessons taken back to training. For the Thunder Boys, the match provided another opportunity to assess the team's physical readiness, structure, combinations and ability to maintain discipline under pressure.

A positive outing for the Thunder Boys as preparations continue. The combinations are developing, the intensity is rising, and the work continues. With the league calendar drawing closer, these are the moments that matter.

The pieces are being tested. The combinations are developing. The intensity is rising.

The work doesnโ€™t stop. Pre-season preparations continues with focus, determination and hunger as the Thunder Boys gained valuable minutes in their legs as they returned to action this morning at the Boiling Point, as we hosted FAZ Division Three South side Mwandi Strikers S A in a 3ร—45-minutes halves preseason friendly.

It was a disciplined display and another important step in our preparations, with Bonga Poniso Liseli , Bornface Moono, Kabuya Kabwe and Kelz Muchindu all finding the back of the net, while Coach Alvin Mutame converted from the spot for the visitors.

The objective was clear, improve coordination, test different combinations and build match fitness. Mission accomplished as the sweat slowly turning into structure.

Beyond competition, football continues to build bridges, strengthen relationships and bring communities together. ๐Ÿ”ฅ
