BOXING SOUTH AFRICA PROVIDES UPDATE ON STRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENTS
Pretoria, 09 September 2026 – Boxing South Africa (BSA) wishes to update the boxing fraternity, licensees, and the broader public on recent structural developments within the organisation. These changes form part of BSA’s ongoing commitment to good governance, operational excellence, and the long-term growth of South African boxing.
SANCTIONING COMMITTEE UPDATE
BSA confirms that the Chairperson of the Sanctioning Committee, Mr Irvin “Pretty Boy” Buhlalu, has tendered his immediate resignation, citing personal matters. A former Olympian and South African champion, Mr Buhlalu served the committee with distinction for over eight years, both as a member and Chairperson.
Reflecting on his decision to step down, Mr Buhlalu said: “I needed to take this break. I will not be lost to the sport of boxing. I will bounce back when the time is right. Boxing is in my blood.”
BSA thanks Mr Buhlalu for his sterling contribution and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
To ensure continuity, Mr Droeks Malan, a seasoned boxing expert, has been appointed Acting Chairperson of the Sanctioning Committee, effective immediately. BSA is also undertaking a process to strengthen the committee with additional skilled members.
The day-to-day operations of sanctioning will continue without interruption, with all pending matters remaining on track.
PROVINCIAL MANAGEMENT TRANSITION
BSA also announces the departure of Mr Lehlohonolo Ramagole, who served as Provincial Manager for Gauteng, Free State, and North West. His last day with BSA was 5 September 2026. On 8 September, he formally bid farewell to licensees, BSA colleagues, and Provincial Managers.
BSA thanks Mr Ramagole for his dedicated service and contribution to the development of boxing across the three provinces and wishes him well in his future pursuits.
NEW APPOINTMENTS
BSA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Lebogang Phatlane as Acting Provincial Manager for Gauteng, Free State, and North West. A full-time employee within the Operations Directorate at BSA Head Office, Mr Phatlane holds an Advanced Diploma and National Diploma in Sport Management, bringing both academic and operational experience to the role.
He will be supported by seasoned Ring Official Mr Thabo Spampool, who will oversee tournament supervision across the three provinces. Together, they will support the continuity and effective delivery of provincial operations.
Both officials were formally introduced to licensees on 8 September 2026 and were warmly received by the sector.
Boxing SA remains resolute in its mandate to regulate, develop, and promote boxing in South Africa. These changes reflect BSA’s continued focus on leadership renewal, capacity building, and operational efficiency.
The public, licensees, and stakeholders are assured that the integrity, stability, and effectiveness of BSA’s structures remain intact as we continue working together to advance South African boxing.
