This is where I'll be sharing my love for this iconic Porsche model, which was first introduced in 1953 and quickly became a legend on the racetrack and on the road.

I'm lucky enough to own one of these beauties myself, and I can't wait to share photos and stories of my adventures with it. From cruising along scenic routes to pushing it to its limits on the track, the 550 Spyder never fails to put a smile on my face.

The Porsche 550 market is entering an interesting phase. After several years of selective buying, we're now seeing a number of significant 550 and 550A Spyders return to the market for a second opportunity. The latest example is chassis 550-0089, which returns to RM Sotheby's after being offered at Monterey in 2024 with an estimate of US$3.75–4.25 million. This time, the estimate has been adjusted to US$3.25–3.75 million, a level that may better align with today's market and attract the right custodian. Like 550A-0141, the car has been presented to an exceptionally high standard, including the reinstatement of its distinctive body features from its 1956 racing debut with Richie Ginther. In today's market, originality, documented history and period-correct presentation continue to carry significant weight. It raises an interesting question: where is collector preference heading? Is the earlier Porsche 550 Spyder still the ultimate prize, or has the more developed 550A become the model enthusiasts and collectors now value most? The next few major sales may provide the answer.
