THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

SACPLAN exhibited at the 2026 Public Works and Infrastructure Summit, hosted by the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) in Johannesburg, under the theme "From Collapse to Confidence: Strengthening Public and Building Safety, Asset Management and Infrastructure Delivery."

The Summit saw Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Dean Macpherson, launch the National Built Environment and Construction Safety Framework and the Public Infrastructure Confidence Index, key milestones towards strengthening safety, accountability and delivery across South Africa's built environment.

SACPLAN's presence speaks directly to professional accountability within the built environment professions, and the planning profession's role as a critical partner in building a safer, more resilient South Africa.

THIS WEEKS HIGHLIGHTS

SACPLAN Participated in the CARE ENOUGH Youth Empowerment Winter School 2026, hosted by the Council for the Built Environment (CBE), Care Enough, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

This initiative forms part of SACPLAN's ongoing commitment to advocating for the planning profession and creating awareness among learners about the profession. We engaged with learners from schools in KwaMashu, Inanda, and Umlazi, providing insight into the planning programmes offered across South Africa's 11 accredited planning schools, the core subjects required for entry, and the pathway to professional registration as a Town Planner.

It was encouraging to engage with a number of enthusiastic learners who already demonstrated an awareness of town planning as a profession.

On 26 June 2026, SACPLAN joined the Global Career Day hosted by Grace Bible Church in Pimville Zone 1, Soweto, as a proud exhibitor representing the Planning profession.

The church brought together stakeholders from across the public and private sector to engage students on the wide range of careers available to them.

We had the honour of sharing:

✅ What planning is and why it matters

✅ Requirements for accredited planning programmes

✅ The road to professional registration

It was truly an energising expo, filled with curious, ambitious students eager to learn about all the professions on show.

As South Africa commemorates Youth Day and marks 50 years since the historic events of 1976, SACPLAN honors the incredible bravery of the generation that shaped our democracy.

Today, as we commemorate Youth Day under the theme "RESET@50 – The Future Calls," the future is calling a new generation of leaders, our Young Planners, whose voices and innovations are the blueprints of tomorrow.

Let us honour the legacy of 1976 by building an inclusive South Africa, one plan and one community at a time.
