Iโ€™ve wanted to offer a camp-based Yoga Wilderness Trail with Lowveld Trails Co. for ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด, and here it is.

This September, weโ€™ll spend 3 nights in a beautiful wilderness camp in the Timbavati, heading out on foot each day with expert trails guides and weaving in yoga, movement, meditation and somatic practices along the way.

โ€œTaking a big stretchโ€ฆ and probably a big yawn too.โ€ ๐Ÿฅฑ

Itโ€™s difficult to explain somatic movement with words because itโ€™s such a felt experience, but hereโ€™s a glimpseโ€ฆ

Unlike movement that asks us to achieve something or look a certain way, ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐œ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ invites us to move ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐š๐ค๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐ .

The guidance I offer creates a gentle container, but within that, each person finds their own shapes, rhythms and pauses. No two people ever move quite the same.

I think thatโ€™s part of why so many people describe it as healing. Thereโ€™s agency here, alongside curiosity and compassion. And itโ€™s all remarkably simple.

Somatic movement isnโ€™t always quiet, though. It can help us settle, energize, or ๐š๐œ๐œ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ณ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐Ÿ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐›๐ž๐ญ๐ฐ๐ž๐ž๐ง ๐๐ข๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ. Rather than trying to stay calm all the time, we learn to move with greater ease between activation and rest.

Thatโ€™s why this practice has become such an important part of my life. ๐™„๐™ฉ ๐™๐™–๐™จ ๐™๐™š๐™ก๐™ฅ๐™š๐™™ ๐™ข๐™š ๐™›๐™š๐™š๐™ก ๐™ก๐™ž๐™ ๐™š ๐™– ๐™ข๐™ค๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฌ๐™๐™ค๐™ก๐™š ๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ง๐™จ๐™ค๐™ฃ.

Iโ€™ll share more snippets over the coming weeks. My hope is simply to make this kind of movement feel a little more familiar.

Somatic movement is mindful, exploratory movement that invites you to sense and move from the inside out - rather than aiming for a particular shape or external form - with attention on ๐ก๐จ๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ž๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ก๐จ๐ฐ ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ .

In this practice, we listen for the bodyโ€™s cues - noticing tension, ease, breath, or where we want to move next. Movements may include rocking, pulsing, spiralling, shaking, or simply sensing into a joint or muscle group to allow it to unwind. Weโ€™ll finish up with 10 minutes of somatic free dance.

๐Ÿ’š Shifting out of feeling โ€œtired but wiredโ€ and creating the conditions for deep rest.

๐‘๐ž๐ง๐š๐ญ๐š ๐‡๐š๐ซ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ is an integrative somatic facilitator (300-hour trauma-informed training), yoga teacher and writer/poet with a special interest in intuitive body wisdom and a passion for dance. Renata prioritises nourishing, whole-body movement and encourages you to be yourself and follow your curiosity. She feels most at home in wild places and offers a unique movement experience inspired by the South African bushveld.

MEET LYNNE
Lynne started working as a counsellor in the trauma field in 2005. In 2014, she qualified as a TRE practitioner, which she has found to be immensely beneficial to clients. Lynne also offers sound journeys and includes a short sound experience at the end of each TRE session.

Hi everyone

Here's the July schedule ๐Ÿ˜Š

A few updates to note for the month ahead:

โ€“ Renata's Slow Flow and Somatic Movement classes have shifted from Tuesday to Monday.
โ€“ Lynne will be starting a 6-week TRE course beginning on Tuesday 14 July. More info to follow.
โ€“ Wednesday 5pm Fluid Flow will be paused for July.
โ€“ Catherine has added an extra Vinyasa Flow class on Thursdays at 10:30am.
โ€“ We're going to experiment with alternating Fit & Fab and Vinyasa Flow on Friday mornings. We'll run this as a trial during July to see where the greatest interest lies.
โ€“ Kim returns with sound at the end of the month, so you can catch her on Friday 31 July (and again on Saturday 1 August for a collaboration with Renata).

We're also very open to requests for pop-up classes on Saturday mornings, so if there's something you'd love to see on the schedule, please let us know.

Somatic dance is an exploration of movement guided by sensation, curiosity and presence.

This approach welcomes all bodies and levels of experience.
