Luke De Klerk will be leaving the country today as he heads to Malaysia to begin an exciting new chapter with his family.

On behalf of everyone at EPA FC, we want to sincerely thank you for everything you’ve given to this club. From the moment you joined, you’ve consistently given your all, and your contribution has never gone unnoticed.

Luke, you are the true definition of a hardworking, passionate, and talented footballer. Your character, commitment, and values have set a standard for everyone around you.

Our journey at the Bayhill Premier Cup has once again been an incredible learning experience for our club.

We exited the tournament in the Quarter Finals of the Winner Section after a penalty shootout. While both players and coaching staff had hoped to go further, we remain truly grateful for the opportunity our Eagles had to compete at such a prestigious event.

Last year, we also reached the Winner Section, where we were knocked out on penalties in the Last 16 against . This year marks a step forward, and with it comes valuable lessons that will shape our growth in football and beyond.

We would like to thank our amazing supporters and everyone who stood by us throughout the tournament.

CAPE TOWN - Under the brilliant Saturday night floodlights, the Bayhill Premier Cup 2026 delivered a result that shook the foundations of the tournament. In a performance defined by grit and grassroots heart, Eagle Performance Academy (EPA) sent shockwaves through the 4,500 strong crowd by knocking out the defending champions, Ubuntu Football Academy.

The atmosphere was electric for the final fixture of the evening. What was expected to be a clinical title defense by Ubuntu turned into a night of pure footballing drama.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬
The match was a tactical chess match with EPA holding onto a slender 1 to 0 lead deep into the second half. As the clock wound down, the stadium reached a fever pitch when Ubuntu was awarded a penalty. This was a lifeline that would have sent the match into a period of extra time.

The Ubuntu talisman stepped up with the weight of a title defense on his shoulders. A silence fell over the 4,500 spectators before the roar of the EPA faithful signaled the unthinkable: the shot missed. The champions had blinked and the Eagles were ready to soar.

𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜
While the Academy title usually suggests elite facilities, EPA coach Shamieg McLaurie painted a very different and more human picture of their journey to the top. Speaking after the historic win, an emotional McLaurie gave credit entirely to his squad whom he views as more than just athletes.

Gents, thank you for all the players but all credit goes out to the players. I’m just here to guide them. They’re like my kids. We don’t have the best of equipment, we don’t have the best of fields, I have to chase moles during the week, training on a small size pitch and then you get moments like this, it’s just amazing.

𝐀 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫
For EPA, this wasn’t just about a scorecard. It was a testament to the love of the game. McLaurie, known for his deep emotional connection to his players, emphasized the family culture that fueled their Saturday night heroics.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲: They have to continue to believe that they can do it and just enjoy themselves.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: We haven’t achieved anything but tonight it was just another reminder why we all love football.

As the Saturday night lights dimmed over the pitch, the narrative of the 2026 Bayhill Premier Cup had been rewritten. The defending champions are out and a group of kids who train on a patch of grass full of moles have become the team to beat.

EPA has reminded us all: in South African football, heart beats resources every single time.
