Great race from our GMMixed crew, in a large field of waka.
We managed to work our way up to the front of the field with Mooloolaba and Northern Beaches.
The battle was on up front, and we were able to move into the lead at one point, but dropped back to 3rd not far from turning the first can. Had a great tussle with Northern Beaches along that section and were able to move ahead again before the next buoy.
Battle royal was on as we slogged it to the finish line, with Mooloolaba holding their lead up front, and NB closing the gap as we hightailed it to the end. 🥵🥵🥵
It was close to a photo finish as NB pipped us at the finish line, with us coming in 3rd place overall.
Awesome racing.
Huge thanks to Poly for hosting this regatta in a great area and to all the clubs supporting this event.
Bring on Scarborough! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

What an awesome day of racing for our paddlers at Poly.
It was a huge effort from our novice mixed crew out in water conditions that was certainly going to test their courage, and trust in their team mates to keep our waka upright, and charging forward
The result is quite remarkable when you realise that these paddlers belong to our Sunday Social group, this is there 1st ever race who don’t paddle during the week and only paddle on Sundays.
There is a couple our novice men who MIGHT make the odd 1 off session during the week if that.
One of our ladies has been to 3 Sunday Social sessions, and the other, 4 Sunday sessions.
Last Sunday we had a team practice, starts, blending, Huli with skirts, and recovery.
So to have missed the start, due to me just finishing the V1 race, and to finish in 18th spot across the line, out of 30+ waka.
And to place second in the Novice division, to say I’m super proud of this lot is definitely an understatement!
Well done team, good vibe on the course, great race!
No doubt will see some of you on Sunday? 😂😂😂

If you are looking for a great way to spend the day with friends and family this Saturday, the Polynesian Va'a-alo Outrigger Canoe Club Inc are hosting the South Queensland Zone Club Regatta #2. Polynesian Va'a Alo is an Australian Outrigger Canoe Club founded in 2015 in Shorncliffe with a membership base of around 85 paddlers.
But this Saturday as they host the Regatta, the Club is anticipating around 800 paddlers to participate in races of eight to fourteen kilometers in length. The opening ceremony will take place at 6.45am and the first race will start around 7.30am. Races will stat around the end of the Shorncliffe Pier, with the best vantage points to watch the races along the Pier and Park Road where the whole of the race course can be followed.
They will also have a ‘Come and Try’ day soon. If you’ve ever wanted to give paddling a go, keep an eye on their socials for more details.
