Bill Drills offer good information in a short course of fire. Is your grip/mount consistent and durable? Is your index repeatable? Do you have consistent pressures through a fast course of fire? Are you over confirming?

Even high level shooters will revisit the bill drill or some iteration of it to evaluate these things from time to time. The difference between the best shooters in the world and your average shooters is the fundamentals refined and executed at higher levels. No secret sauce or magic gun… they’re just putting in the time on things you know you should be doing but avoid.

One of my favorite classifiers. All of the stationary classifiers don’t do it for me 🤌🏽🔥

Invaluable information can be gained from this video. We really pushed the tempo on transitions because, despite popular belief, matches are won by transitions, not splits. You see my accuracy degrade even on what some would consider a level 1 confirmation target, and then I over-transition to the 3rd target and have to correct, costing time. Had a long range day today after shooting a little yesterday as well. I haven't been subjected to the sun in sometime, so even though the weather was beautiful, it still wore me out. Here are a few personal takeaways I had. I've been operating in a "competitive shooting" mindset almost exclusively for months. Meshing the tactical side of shooting into it with some more methodical drills proved to be a daunting challenge. Getting in the dirt felt good, and running the rifle felt surprisingly good despite my having little time on one outside of dry fire. My groups were respectable, and I mitigated recoil effectively without ever having shot this particular rifle. I noticed that at its core, running a rifle effectively and a pistol effectively are two sides of the same coin: eyes lead, gun follows. Sight acquisition, target focus, controlled trigger press, etc. Having more points of contact on a rifle makes it much more controllable than a pistol, of course, but everything else still holds true. Where I struggled the most, however, was navigating a sling. I've yet to find one I'm particularly fond of and am open to suggestions. It felt good to take a break from running and gunning and do a little more methodical shooting. I can't stress the importance of both enough.

A good follow up to the previous drill! ***k

I only do a few reps of this drill because it doesn’t have any follow through. This is mainly to make sure I’m activating my ALS efficiently and acquiring my dot quickly. Also, be mindful that you will not have a “perfect” sight picture. You will have an acceptable one. What’s acceptable varies dependent on a number of things. As always, constructive feedback is welcome! ***k
