September 2, 9 & 16 @ 6:45 PM — Country-Western Two-Step (beg/beg+) with Citabria
In this three-week series we will get comfortable with some basic moves, build a stronger frame, and gain confidence, so we can have more fun at the country dance!

September 2, 9, 16, & 23 @ 7:45 PM — American Smooth with Emily and Citabria
We are so excited to have both Emily and Citabria teach us some of dances that they do in American Smooth. We will be learning mini-routines for Waltz and Foxtrot.

We hope you can attend all classes, but drop-ins are okay. We will be rotating partners in class.

September 23 @ 6:45 PM — Choreo Taster Class with Citabria
In this 50-minute class we will get a first look at the group choreography for performances this fall.

September 30 @ 6:45 PM to 8:30 PM — Choreo Extended Class
In this longer class, we will take a deep dive into learning the choreography. We are working on the choreo through October for performances near the end of the month.

7:45 American Rhumba (all levels) with Emily

Emily has been teaching Latin, Ballroom, Smooth and Rhythm dance styles for nearly 20 years, and still delights in teaching even the simplest steps. Endlessly fascinated by how the human body moves, how people can connect to one another through movement, and the learning process as a whole, she aims to help her students feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor, and able to find humor in their mistakes.

Over the course of her career Emily has held national and international titles in several dance styles within the same-sex competitive dance community, and is currently a Women’s Standard World Champion, along with her spectacular dance partner, Citabria Phillips.

No partner necessary, we will rotate in class! Come early to stretch and mingle with your fellow classmates.

We are located on the 1st floor of 200 Grand Ave in the lounge.

Come early to mingle and stretch!
The class is 50-minutes long. Doors open at 6:30 for warm up.
No partner required - we will switch partners throughout the class.

This series is great for those who have been dancing two-step for a while and are getting comfortable with the basics. We will be exploring some extended patterns that may include some of the basics—underarm turns, cuddle, & sweetheart—so we hope you’re familiar.

Enjoy this week off! We will see you next week at 200 Grand Ave in Oakland in the first floor “lounge”.

Huge round of applause to our dancers and performers at The April Affair! What a stunning show and mock competition. It was truly a joy to witness these incredible athletes performing at their best ✨

A great send off to those traveling this summer to Spain for The Gay Games!! We wish you all the best on your performance journey.

No social dance classes this week or next at Oakland Q***r Dance but we will be back in May with more! Rest up and practice in the meantime ✨ we will see you on the dance floor soon!

We can't thank you all enough for coming to The April Affair--whether you were performing or cheering, judging, or volunteering--even if you were only there in spirit!

We enjoyed basking in raucous and supportive community as we watched a variety of dancers give it their all. We loved dancing with one another during the breaks and perusing the fun displays in the hallway. Many of us reconnected with friends we hadn't seen in a long time.
