Who remembers the LIFE BE IN IT Campaign to get more Australians active? Is it time to bring back Norm?

Life. Be in it.’ was the slogan for what became one of the best-known health promotions in Australian history. The campaign aimed to increase physical activity and general wellbeing among Australians, and encourage them to take control of their health.
Life. Be in it.

‘Life. Be in it.’ was a Victorian Government health initiative launched in 1975 by the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation, with support from the federal government.
It aimed to educate the Australian public about exercise in a fun, non-threatening way.

In 1977, the State Minister for Youth, Sport and Recreation, Brian Dixon, claimed that 97 per cent of Victorians were aware of the campaign, 47 per cent were thinking about becoming more active, and 35 per cent had become more active.

I enjoyed standing up and representing the independent club owners of Australia in Canberra for the last two days alongside an energetic advisory group and collaborative community of fitness industry leaders. Topics of conversation at an operational level included subscription models, Human Resources, and running a small business; I even gave a mention to our high-cost music licence fees and much more. GLP was a huge talking point, and I see immense opportunity for our independents not only providing education and solutions for the current GLP consumer but those considering this path.
Million Moves in 2026 will launch September 1st and is another opportunity for independents to provide physical opportunities to their communities; it's the gateway to reducing inactivity and building a stronger foundation in the preventive space of health care.
The team at AUSactive was led by the outstanding Mariana Ivantsoff, CEO Ken Griffin and Chair Emmett Williams; meetings and speakers included Andrew Wallace MP, who spent personalised time with the independent advisory group talking small business, defence, and the rebate that will affect older Australians who have paid health insurance.
