Shoreham Goju Ryu Karate

Last week 4 of our dojo members attended the European Gasshuku in the Netherlands. It was Anton Dikken 's first European Gasshuku and he wrote this review.

I entered my first international gasshuku with a fair bit of trepidation five days of five‑hour sessions felt relentless, and at nearly 70 with a few joint issues, I wasn’t sure how I’d hold up.
But with my wife’s words ringing in my ears (“Man up!”), off I went.

It was fabulous.

You learn so much from the top EGKA - English Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Association and IOGKF International instructors - each one brings something truly special to the table. Training alongside 400 diverse karateka, sharing smiles with people from all over the world, and being completely immersed in Gojuryu for that length of time is an incredible gift.

Now, sitting at home and reflecting, a few things stand out:

Respect.
Friendship.
A little more understanding.
And plenty of aches and pains.

Gojuryu is a wonderful cornerstone in my life.
I'm already contemplating the next one.

Yesterday was Charlotte’s last training session with us as she’s now completed her placement and is heading home. It’s been great having her as part of the dojo, and we hope she comes back to visit if she’s ever in the area.

Day 2 EGKA Summer Gasshuku complete. This was some of our students first Gasshuku and it was a great one. Superb training. Topped off with two successful 2nd Kyu gradings
