Jamey Powers is an experienced movement and mindfulness teacher (Pilates, yoga, dance, breath). She is a comprehensively trained and Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher and certified yoga instructor. She has maintained a practice as a teacher of Pilates, yoga and body-mind awareness since 2002, working with a variety of populations and ages. Her research and training in meditation and mindfulness nourishes her enthusiasm for the body-mind connection and the pleasure of embodiment, concepts that inform her teaching practice. Jamey is comprehensively trained in STOTT PILATES (Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels, Injury and Special Populations). Firmly grounded in STOTT principles of Pilates, she infuses other schools of Pilates thought into her teaching practice. She served as a Master Trainer for Club Pilates in 2018-2019, traveling and leading comprehensive Pilates teacher trainings. Jamey has a deep appreciation for yoga, contemplative practices, mindfulness and the healing arts. Having studied a range of codified yoga techniques since 1997, she was guided to India twice while in graduate school, researching and participating in Hindu rituals. Upon completion of her graduate work, Jamey studied classical yoga at an ashram and received a certification for teaching yoga. Her movement technique is influenced by years training as a dancer, specifically ballet, modern and postmodern dance. Methods such as yoga, Pilates, Alexander Technique, Release Technique and Body-Mind Centering influence her approach to movement education. Jamey attended Oklahoma State University, traveled to Kenya with the School for International Training, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Arizona State University. Certifications:
