The PGA Tour confirmed Friday that Rory McIlroy will play in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs, at TPC Southwind from AUGUST 13-16 after skipping the tournament entirely last year.

McIlroy, currently WORLD NO. 2, sits just 12th in the FedEx Cup standings his lowest playoff-opener position since 2021 after a lighter 2026 schedule that also saw him skip the RBC Heritage, the Cadillac Championship, and the Travelers Championship. He's chasing a RECORD FOURTH FedExCup title, having already won it three times (2016, 2019, 2022), and comes into Memphis fresh off defending his MASTERS title in April for his sixth major championship. He'll be joined by World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, defending FedExCup champion Tommy Fleetwood, and defending St. Jude champion Justin Rose.

Last year's decision to sit out didn't exactly pay off McIlroy finished T-12 at the BMW Championship and T-23 at the Tour Championship. This time, he's taking a different approach heading into the business end of the season.
