🏒 Keeping the Rink Safe, Inclusive & Clean: Updated Locker Room Policy 🏒
Thanks to our Base Layer Requirement, we’re able to rethink how we use our locker rooms at BKIA! Because all athletes arrive wearing their base layer, formal changing is no longer needed in the locker rooms—only putting on gear above the base layer.
This update allows us to maintain an open, co-ed space where all players can prepare together safely and comfortably!
Here is what you need to know before heading to the rink:
🚪 1. Open Doors & SafeSport Safety
Arrive Ready: Wear your base layers to BKIA per the Base Layer Requirement.
Doors Stay Open: Locker room doors must remain open before, during, and after all scheduled practices.
Why? Open doors keep all interactions observable and interruptible, enabling Bystander Intervention (a key SafeSport priority) and allowing locker-room monitors to oversee multiple rooms from the hallway.
Games & Tournaments: Doors may be closed before, during, and immediately after official games and tournaments.
Shared Responsibility: Monitors lead the way, but all parents and players are encouraged to help ensure doors remain open!
🚻 2. Co-Ed Shared Environment
Because everyone arrives already dressed in their base layer, locker rooms serve as shared, co-ed spaces for players to put on skates and protective equipment.
Changing down to skin or undergarments in the locker room is strictly prohibited—keep those base layers on!
🚫 3. House Rules & Respecting the Space
No Cell Phones: Mobile phone use is strictly prohibited inside the locker rooms at all times.
Use Stick Racks: Store all hockey sticks in the provided racks to protect gear and eliminate trip hazards.
Leave It Better Than You Found It:
Stow unused gear in your bag and slide bags under benches before taking the ice.
Deposit all trash, tape balls, and skate/stick snow directly into provided trash cans.
No spitting on the floor!
