Little me was always mesmerized by the women in beach towns.

The ones with sun-kissed skin, shell jewelry on, hair wild from the ocean, a collection of random little jobs, chasing seasons, and somehow making the whole world feel like their office.

And, in a plot twist that would absolutely send her over the edge…

We did it, kid.

We teach yoga on a pier while the ocean rolls beneath us. We take groups out for SUPY, where we get to see dolphins and practice fully immersed in nature. We move barefoot in the sand and call it work.

The life you thought belonged to the coolest women in the world?

It’s ours now.

It isn’t always glamorous. It’s early alarms, sandy equipment, weather apps, wet yoga pants, and about seventeen different gig jobs keeping this beautiful little life afloat.

Some days, the gratitude catches in my throat and spills straight out of my eyes. It’s as if every season that carried me here, even the ones I couldn’t understand at the time, finally makes sense.
Because holy s**t! Are we living her dream!

We became one of the women she once looked at with stars in her eyes. 🌊

What the hell does a sociology degree have to do with teaching yoga?

As it turns out… pretty much everything.

Sociology taught me to zoom out.

To question why certain things are considered “normal.” To recognize that our health, habits, opportunities and even our ideas of success are shaped by forces much larger than individual willpower.

It freed me from the illusion that every choice we make is entirely our own.

Yoga taught me to zoom back in.

To notice where those expectations live in my body. To question which beliefs are truly mine. To create enough space between conditioning and reaction that I might choose differently.

Sociology asks:
What forces are shaping this experience?

Yoga asks:
How is this experience showing up within me?

Together, they ask:
Now that I can see it, how will I respond?

Backed by research. Shaped by experience. Taught in every class.

Which one are you climbing up here with me?

Your mind can be your greatest teammate…
or your worst enemy.

In yoga, we often say the mind is the king (or queen 💅) of the senses.

But the breath leads the mind.

When we slow down…
when we breathe…
we can create just enough space to question the stories our mind is telling us.

Your mind is listening to everything you tell it.

Feed it compassion.
Feed it possibility.
Feed it love.

Because when you change what you feed your mind, you begin to change your thoughts.

And when your thoughts change…
so does your world. 🌊🤍

I’ve been on this little yogi teaching journey for a little over two years now.

And I still get emotional. Every class.

I’ll look around the room and think…

How in the world did I get lucky enough to share this practice as my full-time life?

Sometimes people walk in carrying the weight of the world.

Sometimes they’re walking in ready to celebrate.

Sometimes the room is quiet.

Sometimes it’s full of laughter.

And in the middle of all of that, I get to witness so many small, powerful moments.

Someone finally letting out a breath they’ve been holding all day.

Someone surprising themselves, holding a balance they never thought they could, trying something that scared them, or smiling ear to ear because they just did something they once thought was impossible.

Every class reminds me how resilient people are.

How willing they are to show up.

How brave it is to keep practicing, on the mat and in life.

Around 1,000 classes later…

I still find myself looking up at the ceiling for a second, just to hold it together.

And honestly…

I have a feeling that as long as I keep saying yes to the spaces that feel like home…

this feeling will never go away. 🤍

“To sweat is to pray, to make an offering of your innermost self. Sweat is holy water, prayer beads, pearls of liquid that release your past. Sweat is an ancient and universal form of self healing, whether done in the gym, the sauna, or the sweat lodge…The more you sweat, the more you pray. The more you pray, the closer you come to ecstasy.” — Gabrielle Roth 🤍

Shoutout to Lauren Alivia for always giving me the push my body craves while still making it playful.
To YogaSaltWilmington for always giving me the safe coming home my soul needs. Andddd to my latest OBSESSION Joyburst for helping me to keep my body going and mind sharp with my pretty cray schedule.
