Lance Palmer built an elite wrestling résumé as a four-time NCAA All-American, NCAA runner-up and Big Ten champion at Ohio State after going 150–6 with four state titles in high school. He later became a two-time WSOF champion and two-time PFL tournament champion in MMA. Rex Holman had a rare combination of strength, speed, tempo, and impeccable technique that overwhelmed his opponents.

Holman graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1988, where he was a 2x Ohio State Champion.

He then headed out west to Arizona State to wrestle for Ohio legend Bobby Douglas.

Rex had successful freshman and sophomore seasons and entered his first two NCAA tournaments as the #7 and #2 seed.

However, he fell short of All-American status both years.

After his sophomore season, he decided to transfer back home to Ohio State, where he would have the perfect training partner, returning national champion Kevin Randleman.

Rex credits his battles with Randleman in the Buckeye wrestling room as a major factor in preparing him for the NCAA tournament.

Ohio State proved to be a good fit for Holman, and he had outstanding junior and senior seasons for the Buckeyes.

In 1992, he finished 3rd in the nation after dropping his semifinal bout to Mark Kerr.

He then capped off his career in 1993, winning the 190-pound NCAA championship, defeating Iowa’s Joel Sharrat in the finals.

Holman was also a 2x Big Ten champion for Ohio State and the first Buckeye to post an undefeated championship season.
