Would local-ish folks be interested in winter workshop days that do not require a horse? We have a heated space with beautiful views that would great for these sort of activities. Here are a few ideas that are rumbling around over here. Please reach out or comment if you have more ideas, are interested in attending, or if you or someone you know would like to offer a session. We would be happy to share the space.

- Making a mohair cinch / girth
- Making a rope halter / knot tying
- Tooling a browband tooling/stamping
- Horsehair braiding (bracelets, keychains)
- Building an equine first-aid kit building
- Hoof care/trimming basics for owners
- Body clipping or mane/tail braiding
- Wreath/decor making using horseshoes or tack scraps

What a weekend! The clinic was AMAZING - clinician, participants, auditors, horses and the weather. Thank you to everyone who made our first clinic an overwhelming success. It was an extra special weekend all around. ❤️❤️❤️

The horse industry often thrives on extremes.

You’re either traditional or progressive
A serious rider or just a hobbyist
All in on one method or seen as uncommitted
Good or bad. Right or wrong.

But horses don’t live in absolutes. And the truth is, neither do we.

When we treat methods, tools, or ideologies as all or nothing, we lose the nuance that real growth and learning require. We stop asking questions. We stop listening. And we stop being curious, which is one of the most essential traits in any good horseperson.

Black and white thinking creates camps instead of communities and followers instead of thinkers. It drives wedges between people who might otherwise learn from one another. It can also create a kind of indoctrination where stepping outside the accepted method is seen not just as different, but as disloyal or even harmful.

That kind of rigidity helps no one. Especially not the horses.

Nuance does not mean abandoning your values. It means being willing to look closer, to consider context, and to keep learning. It means making room for conversations instead of shutting them down.

Because the goal is not to be right.
The goal is to do better. For the horses.

Why is it so hard for people to just be kind to horses?

Why is it so hard for people to just be kind to horses?

Why is it so much easier for people to revert to force and pressure when things don't go as planned?

Why is the first reflex most of the time to think "he is just testing me, trying to get out of work, checking boundaries"?

Why can't people just be nice to their horse? After all - they say they love their horse?

I guess it is because most people haven't experienced true kindness in their lifes yet. That makes it hard to trust kindness.

Kindness works. Kindness creates trust. Kindness lets the other being know "I see you, you matter, I care".

If you observe any living being, the first reaction to something new is being careful, skeptic.

This isn't unique to the horse.

And yet, people punish their horses for spooking, for being skeptical of new things, not wanting to pass scary places, even though they KNOW horses are flight animals and therefore programmed to be especially careful and skeptical to anything new or out of the norm!

Why oh why? Ego I guess.

Kindness though does not mean to abandon guidance and leadership.

Have you ever taken a worried, crying child by its hand to guide it when it was worried or scared?

You reassured the child, held its hand with calm firmness, trusting that everything will be ok.

I am certain you didn't blame the child for being scared or maybe even crying - right?

That energy helped the child feel safe and secure. This is kindness.

Lead your horse with that kindness. And you'll get softness back.
