Warming up for the 1st round of the Southern California Amateur at Valencia CC.

This was one I really wanted to play well in.

Unfortunately just didn’t have my game on the first day

And the extremely difficult course setup made me pay mightily.

This was a very deep and talented field

And the cut after 2 rounds ended up being +10, which shows how difficult the course set up was.

But I just hit the ball so bad the first day I couldn’t quite recover.

Ended up shooting 81-73 (12 over) for the 2 rounds and missed the cut by 2.

Super disappointed obviously, but got a few weeks off to work on a few things before a final stretch run to end the summer

Next up on the schedule is the Southern California match play qualifier at the end of July…

and the Torrey Pines Club Championship, U.S. Mid Am qualifier and Southern Cal Public Links in August.

Pain is a funny thing…

Sometimes it’s because of actual trauma to tissues

Sometimes it’s from a stressed muscle or tendon

Sometimes it’s just a nervous pathway that’s confused.

But there’s always something we can do to improve it.

For me, finding the right exercise made all the difference.

The hard part can be knowing which stretch, exercise or movement to do for our particular issue.

It’s the back nine of my qualifier to try and make it to one of the most prestigious tournaments in California… the Southern California Amateur.

Past champions of the SCGA Am include Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala and others.

Only 6 players qualify out of 84… with multiple other qualifiers being held around SoCal.

After 3-under 33 on the front, it’s easy to let your foot off the gas.

But I’ve blown too many good starts in the past, to make the mistake of thinking it’s in the bag.

Really happy with how I continued to stick to the game plan on that back 9.

Any shot could turn into a double bogey or worse.

I just tried to stay mentally in the present, only thinking about the shot in front of me..

And immediately pushing out any thoughts that enter my mind about score or qualifying.

I did a really good job of that today.

Nice to shoot a good score when it matters.

On to the championship!
