About 7 days into the cut and seeing a difference already.

Have to be careful here though. I’m really good at shedding weight. But what I want is to cut fat, not all weight. Preserving muscle here is key.

Most people’s tendency while cutting is to cut calories and ramp up intensity.
The real trick? Don’t increase intensity. Don’t turn your workouts into pure cardio.

Really, a cut should just be revealing the work you’ve already done. Keep your routine, just lower calories, and emphasize protein to preserve muscle.

Well we’ve made it to the 30-day mark. Commencing a short cutting period to see some progress I’ve made. The goal was: strength first, which builds muscle, then cut (calorie deficit) to see the muscle. So far this plan is working well!

Well, been up and down with this lock in - but mostly consistent. Day 18 progress pics. Highlighting my back this time, because I hit another new deadlift PR. Twice in a month.
Strategy appears to be working well I guess! Here’s what’s going on.
Main plan: bulk first (eat lean, lots of protein, drink lots of water), cut later (maintain protein, eat less carbs and fats, just work out enough to maintain muscle). That being said, I have a number of goals I’m trying to reach by the end of this 90 days. I’ve already hit two of them, but have a lot more to go before the end. It’ll be down to the wire for sure.

Day 8 of locking in.
Progress - Charts comparing day 2 to day 8. Didn’t make quite as much progress as I hoped for the first week, but that’s because I was sick for 3 days. Didn’t work out, but continued to prioritize protein and give myself some rest. Important to not beat myself up over it. Continuing on now and lifting heavy.
That being said, I guess my body needed the rest, because I hit a new deadlift PR (385 lbs). So I guess I need to increase my goal again for the 90 days!

Here’s the current list of goals:

- maintain 6.5 minute mile
- 400 lb deadlift (increase PR by 15 more lbs)
- 250 lb bench (increase PR by 15 lbs)
- 325 lb squat (increase PR by 25 lbs)
- 12-13% body fat, above 200 lbs

Feeling good 3 days in to my 90 day lock-in. Actually weighed in at 2 lbs lighter than I started, which is crazy considering the amount of food I’ve been eating. All natural diets are incredible!

Well - 30 day lock in didn’t go as planned, and you know what? It (life) happens. It’s ok.

So let’s not beat ourselves up, let’s just pick ourselves up and start again. Started it back off today with a high protein diet, and a mile sprint (which I was super happy with, got a 6.5 minute mile). I’m not sure that I’ve ever ran a mile that quick!

Not overdoing the cardio on this journey, since my goal is to gain lean muscle, but I do plan to run once a week to keep up the mile time and cardio health.

Day 2 of locking in my diet:

Food consisted of eggs, beef, a salad, a protein shake, and salmon. Pretty good and lean, and already feeling a lot less bloated. Got up for a workout at 5:00am and feeling good!
