Sailor

Hello family and friends. This is Adam Atkins, Sailor's dad. We've encountered a challenging obstacle, but we're choosing to view it as an opportunity for growth and we'll be taking a brief break from racing at Port City Raceway. Over the last weekend, Sailor hadn't been feeling well, which escalated on Monday, prompting Andrea Courtney to take him to the St John's ER. The medical staff quickly assessed his condition and initiated testing, revealing that his pancreas has ceased functioning. Sailor was then transported by ambulance to St Francis PICU, where he was on the verge of a diabetic coma. Our young racer has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and is currently recovering with the excellent care of our medical team. This new diagnosis necessitates a significant adjustment for our entire family, and we will require some time to help Sailor regain his health and return to his normal energetic self. We're grateful for your prayers and well wishes during his recovery. Sailor remains in the PICU at present, undergoing treatment to eliminate the built-up bicarbonate acid in his system. Fortunately, he is showing improvement today, and we will continue to provide updates on his progress. We extend our best wishes to our friends participating in the upcoming racing event this weekend and urge everyone to prioritize their safety.
