And today we turn it into a mini golf course. Let’s do this.

🏛️🌸 There is a city in Seneca County, Ohio whose downtown commercial architecture is so consistently magnificent — block after block of elaborately detailed Italianate and Romanesque Revival brick buildings surrounding one of the finest Second Empire courthouses in the entire state — that architectural historians make pilgrimages to photograph it and most Ohioans have never heard of it. Tiffin has been quietly extraordinary for a hundred and fifty years and it is time more people knew.

Tiffin's architectural richness is a direct legacy of the extraordinary economic prosperity it enjoyed in the second half of the 19th century, when the Sandusky River corridor made it a regional manufacturing and commercial hub whose businessmen and civic leaders invested their wealth in buildings of remarkable quality and ambition. The Seneca County Courthouse — completed in 1884 in the Second Empire style with a mansard roof and elaborate stone detailing — is widely considered one of the ten finest courthouse buildings in Ohio, and it anchors a downtown streetscape that has been remarkably well-preserved simply because Tiffin never grew wealthy enough after its Victorian peak to tear everything down and start over.
