The following conversations happened on the drive home tonight…
“What does it mean to be a teammate?”
“Finishing with them, even when it sucks.”
“What do you mean?”
“If they have to run 2 laps after practice, I’m going to run 2 laps too—even if I was only told to run 1. Because we’re a team, and we finish together.”
That answer says it all.
Coach Adam has been focusing a lot on responsibility and accountability lately. Come prepared. Have the right practice gear. Own your choices. Sometimes that means an extra lap.
But somewhere along the way, the girls learned something even bigger: You don’t leave your teammates behind.
If one girl has to run, they run with her.
If one girl is struggling, they encourage her.
If one girl has a hard day, they pick her back up.
And when it’s time to finish… they finish together.
These are the lessons that matter most. Sometimes the lessons they are learning go a little deeper. Softball will teach them how to hit, throw, pitch and field. But being a teammate? That’s something they’ll carry with them long after the last inning.
