Rum Runners, family, and friends,
As we observe Memorial Day, take a moment to honor those who gave everything for our freedoms, including those with roots right here in our community.
At Veterans Memorial Park in Tampa, you’ll find a peaceful, well-maintained spot perfect for reflection. It’s a beautiful public space that connects local history with global sacrifice. Check it out if you can, and stop into the museum and sign the guestbook in support!
My wife and I brought our sons, explaining the sacrifices made to obtain, preserve, and protect the freedoms we enjoy today.
Lt. Col. John McCrae’s iconic WWI poem, found at the WWI memorial there, serves as a timeless reminder of the cost of war and our duty to remember the fallen.
In Flanders Fields
By Lt. Col. John McCrae of Montreal
In Flanders Fields where poppies blow
Between the Crosses, row by row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The Larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
These memorials remind us of American heroes who deserve our gratitude. Stop by Veterans Memorial Park, it’s worth the visit.
Lest We Forget.

🚨 Tampa Bay Rum Runners Stand with Malakai’s Legacy 🏒❤️
Rum Runners family and Tampa Bay hockey community — this one hits hard.
On September 28, 2025, 14-year-old hockey player Malakai Troy Flores went into a store after a game for a simple snack. It contained cashews. He had a severe nut allergy, didn’t have his EpiPen with him in that moment, and within minutes he was gone.
Malakai was just like so many of our own kids and teammates — out there grinding on the ice, living the hockey life, careful with his allergies… but one mistake, one missing EpiPen, and everything changed forever.
No family should ever have to bury their child because a life-saving EpiPen wasn’t close enough when it mattered most.
That’s why his mom, Jerika, turned her unimaginable pain into purpose. She has launched Malakai’s Bill — a petition that has already gathered tens of thousands of signatures — and is fighting for widespread public access to epinephrine auto-injectors in public places, arenas, stores, schools — everywhere kids like ours play and live.
Businesses are already stepping up and stocking EpiPens on site because of Malakai.
That’s real change. That’s his legacy saving lives.
As the Tampa Bay Rum Runners, we are proudly standing with Malakai’s family and this cause. One allergic reaction shouldn’t be a death sentence.
We are calling on ALL rinks, arenas, and hockey facilities in the Tampa Bay area (and beyond) to take a stand right now:
✅ Commit to keeping epinephrine auto-injectors (EpiPens) readily available and clearly marked on site.
✅ Train your staff on how to use them in an emergency.
✅ Help protect every player, coach, parent, and fan who walks through your doors.
Like and share this post if you believe our community rinks should be a part of the solution by having epinephrine pens available.
If you run or manage a local rink, please comment below or message us — let’s lead by example and make our hockey community safer for every kid.
Join the movement and sign the petition here:

How you can help right now:
✅ Like, comment, and SHARE this post to spread Malakai’s story
✅ Sign the petition above and share it with your networks
✅ Tag your hockey families, teammates, and local rinks
✅ If you’re a business owner or facility manager, let us know you’re in!
Let’s show the hockey world what Tampa Bay is made of. We protect our own.
Malakai’s life mattered. His legacy can save others.
Rest easy, Malakai. We’ve got your back. 🏒💙

Congratulations girls!
