From open water right back into the shallow swamp where the **cottonmouths and gators are watching your every move**. 😂🐊🐍

Folks will tell you crappie leave the shallow water when summer gets here.

I don't buy it.

These crappie aren't packing their bags and leaving the swamp for the main lake just because the water is shallow. **The fish adjust to the conditions — and sometimes WE have to adjust with them.**

Some days you find them. Some days you don't.

We ALL have those **YAY days and NAH days.** That's fishing. 😂

Suck it up. Move on. Work harder. **Fish longer.**

Some folks are worried about their batteries dying before the day's over.

🎣 **SUMMER CRAPPIE ARE BITING! 10–15 FOW & LIGHT LINE WAS THE KEY 🔥**

The open-water crappie bite wasn't bad at all! I'm not going to lie — the dog days of summer aren't my favorite time to chase crappie 😂 — but summertime can still produce some VERY nice fish if you're willing to go find them and adjust to what they want.

For us, the better fish seemed to be hanging around **10–15 feet of water**, and one thing became pretty obvious:

👉 **GO SMALL OR GO HOME EMPTY-HANDED!**

**1/16 oz was the key.** We experimented with **4 lb, 6 lb and 10 lb ACC Crappie Stix Copolymer line**, and you'll see the difference for yourself in the upcoming video. That lighter setup made a difference.

🎨 **COLORS:** Keep it simple!
Natural, solid colors produced for us. We tried some of the brighter stuff, but the fish just weren't having it.

We caught fish both **jigging and casting**, and I honestly can't tell you that one was clearly better than the other. Both methods put crappie in the boat.

We also brought minnows because we figured they'd be hard to beat. WRONG! 😂 The crappie didn't hit the minnows nearly as well as we expected.

We compared them against **Pops Crappie Jigs** and **Catch More Crappie plastics**, and the artificial baits flat-out produced.

**OLD SCHOOL FISHING — WARRIOR BOATS, GREEN STIX & A STRINGER FULL! 🎣🐊**

If you're running with **this gang right here**, you really don't need much. 😂

**NO ELECTRONICS TODAY.**

No staring at a screen trying to find a fish.

We went **OLD SCHOOL.**

Put some bait on the hook, got it down around the bottom and went fishing for **bream, crappie and shellcracker** the way we've been catching them for years.

And judging by that stringer…

**THE FISH DIDN'T GET THE MEMO THAT WE NEEDED ELECTRONICS. 😂🎣**

We had a little haul getting back to where we wanted to fish, but that's another reason I'm loving these **Warrior One-Man Boats**.

As for me, I've got a doctor's appointment at 1:00. I reckon getting older means more damn checkups!

I'm halfway to 100, still feel about **35**, and the Hume scale says **38** — so apparently me and that scale aren't too far apart. 😂💪

**IF THESE GREEN STIX COULD TALK… 🎣💚**

I'm not sure what they'd tell you.

But I guarantee **they'd have some stories.** 😂

These **ACC Crappie Stix rods, Legacy reels and ACC copolymer line** haven't lived an easy life with me.

They've been drug all over the country.

Thrown in boats.
Drug through the swamp.
Covered in mud.
Dropped in the water.
Banged against trees.
Stepped on.
Dropped.
Kicked.
Beat around in the back of trucks and boats.

You name it — **I've probably done it to them.**

And then the next morning?

I pick those same green stix up, put them back in my hand and **GO FISHING.**

That's what matters to me.

I don't need fishing equipment that looks pretty hanging on a wall. I need equipment I can DEPEND ON when I'm miles back in a Carolina swamp, fishing a river somewhere across the country, guiding customers, filming a show, or just chasing fish with my family.

And these things have flat-out **earned my trust.**

Well… another episode of **“Aww shucks, look back there at all that water.”** 😂

You know I couldn't just look at it and keep going.

**I HAD TO GO SEE WHAT WAS BACK THERE!**

Snakes? Probably. 🐍
Mud? Oh yeah.
Skeeters? Plenty of them.
Easy way in? Hell no. 😂

But **it wouldn't be any fun if it was easy!**

Some folks are gonna look at these pictures and say, *“There ain't no damn way I'm going back there. That's just dumb.”*

And that's alright.

**That's why God only made ONE Gator. 🐊😂**

And I can promise you my wife is plenty thankful for that!

Although… I do have a little shadow coming up behind me who would've probably been right there stomping through that mud with me if he'd been along today. 😂 Thankfully for his mama, **Kade wasn't with me on this adventure!**

Sometimes the Best Days Aren’t Measured by Numbers… They’re Measured by Memories. 💚🎣

There’s just something about spending a day in the swamp that never gets old.

The shellcracker and bream bite wasn’t bad at all, and we definitely had to do a little culling to upgrade the livewell! That’s always a good problem to have. 😎

More than anything, today was about making memories, meeting some new friends, and enjoying God’s creation. Those are the days that stick with you long after the fish fry is over.

As always, our gear got a serious workout today!
