Did you know like PHOS-CHEK® are thickened with specialized gum blends that help control droplet size, improve adhesion to vegetation, and enhance drop performance from the air? They make more effective, helping firefighters as they work to slow wildfire spread and protect communities.

Firefighters respond to nearly 37,000 industrial fires every year, which account for $1.5 billion in damages, on average, according to the NFPA.

When a fire breaks out at an industrial facility, effective response starts long before the first alarm. Proper preplanning, training and having the right firefighting can help crews respond quickly and effectively when every second matters.

During times of high fire activity, the U.S. Forest Service’s Durango Airtanker Base in Durango, CO, plays a critical role – capable of delivering over 20,000 gallons of retardant an hour to support firefighting operations.

In 2026 alone, the base has supported wildfire response efforts with over 1.28 million gallons of retardant, 484 flights, and 41 fires supported over 12 different states.

Ever wonder how PHOS-CHEK® actually works? It’s pure chemistry.

When flame contacts treated vegetation, the phosphate promotes char formation rather than flaming combustion, generating water v***r and graphite-like carbon instead of the volatile gases that sustain a flame front.

The retardant does not go away when the water dries. It stays put through wind, heat, and smoke, remaining effective for days, weeks, and months, until it is washed away by a significant rain event.

As wildfire challenges grow, more fire agencies are turning to ground-applied as another tool to help protect communities, strengthen fire lines, and support suppression efforts.

In the latest issue of Fire & Safety Journal Americas, Shawn Raley and Aaron Burrough discuss how ground application of fire retardant complements aerial firefighting by providing greater precision and flexibility when responding to .

Our SOLBERG® EVOLUTION 3% SFFF is the first Newtonian on the U.S. Department of Defense Qualified Products List to also secure FM 5130 approval.

Newtonian means the foam has water-like viscosity, and the FM 5130 approval helps simplify the transition to fluorine-free technology for aircraft hangars, fuel storage facilities, and other fixed fire protection systems.

The development of every SOLBERG® foam is meticulous, and science-driven.

We gave Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment Magazine a tour at our Green Bay, Wisconsin, campus to show them the "The Art of Making Foam."

Their article highlights our dedicated R&D test center—one of only five facilities in the U.S. capable of handling this level of rigorous fire testing—where our chemists screened over 1,000 formulations to perfect our technology.
