Dustin Steedman brings more than 18 years of coaching experience and over 15 years of experience as a competitive rugby player. His background spans high school, collegiate, and representative rugby, with a coaching philosophy centered on leadership, player development, accountability, and building sustainable team culture.
Dustin began his coaching career at the high school level, where he spent a decade developing competitive programs. During that period, he coached a Michigan boys high school state championship team and led select-side squads across boys, girls, and collegiate rugby.
He later joined Davenport University, an NCAA Division II institution whose rugby program competes in Division 1A under the Collegiate Rugby Association of America (CRAA), the highest level of collegiate rugby competition in the United States.
During nine years at Davenport, Dustin served 3.5 years as an Assistant Coach followed by 4.5 years as Head Coach. Under his leadership, the program remained a nationally competitive presence, including a third-place and two fourth-place national finishes in rugby sevens.

Dustin's coaching résumé includes athletes who have gone on to compete at elite levels of the game:
7 players who competed in Major League Rugby (MLR)
1 current USA Rugby Sevens player and Olympian
1 USA U19s 15s national-team player
Multiple collegiate All-Conference and All-American selections
1 Rudy Scholz Award nominee

After relocating to Texas, Dustin has remained involved in the collegiate rugby community by supporting recruiting efforts and helping connect high school players with collegiate opportunities.
Dustin now brings that experience to Grizzlies Youth Rugby, where his focus is developing technically skilled, confident, and accountable young athletes. His goal is to build a culture of excellence, character, teamwork, and long-term player development—helping athletes reach their potential both on and off the field.

Today you played four hard-fought games in the Texas heat with a team full of U12 boys, and when you were finished, you didn’t head home. You asked how you could help and stepped up to be a sideline judge.

That kind of heart can’t be coached.

Your dedication, determination, and willingness to serve your team and this club are exactly what Grizzly Rugby is all about. We are so proud of the athlete you’re becoming, but even more proud of the young lady you are.

Our Grizzlies had a fantastic time Bloodfest playing with The Austin Blacks and San Antonio!

Last but definitely not least is our U8 MVP Niko! Congratulations to all our incredible athletes on our first season!

Tonight we celebrated some truly incredible athletes at Grizzly Rugby with our MVP awards 🧡💙

But here’s the thing about this team… being an MVP here is about so much more than scoring tries.

It’s about leadership.
It’s about grit.
It’s about showing up when you’re tired.
It’s about encouraging teammates.
It’s about learning something completely new and refusing to quit.
It’s about heart.

This season we watched kids transform right in front of our eyes. Quiet kids became leaders. Nervous kids became fearless tacklers. Brand new players became teammates who played for each other like they’d been together for years.

Our MVPs earned every bit of recognition they received, and we could not be more proud of them. Not just for how they played, but for the humans they are becoming.

Honestly, coaching staff could’ve handed out 100 awards tonight because every single player brought something valuable to this club.

Thank you to all of our families for trusting us, supporting these athletes, and helping build this culture from the ground up.
