Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has moved into our area, causing poor air quality for a few days. The tiny particles in the air can irritate your horse’s respiratory system.

When air quality is poor:
• Limit or avoid strenuous exercise, especially for horses with asthma (heaves), inflammatory airway disease, or other respiratory conditions.
• Ensure horses have constant access to fresh water.
• Watch for coughing, nasal discharge, increased respiratory rate or effort, flared nostrils, or decreased performance.

A good rule of thumb: If the air quality is unhealthy for you, it’s unhealthy for your horse too. Giving them a day or two off from intense work while air quality improves is a simple way to protect their lungs.

Stay safe, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your veterinarian if your horse develops respiratory signs or appears to be struggling.

Great week at HITS Vermont for AM Equestrian 💚🖤

🧸Molly Walsh and Be Mine SF were Reserve Champion in the Vermont Adult Hunters with top ribbons out of a big group ❤️💛🤍

🧸Elizabeth Walsh and Be Mine SF had great results in their Low Adult Hunters debut, placing 5th in two of their over fences classes and 8th in the hack 🩷🤎

⚙️Chris Burnett and Inspector Gadget had an another successful week in the 0.65 Jumpers, taking home reserve champion in the Open 0.65 Jumpers and 4th place in the 0.65 Jr/Am Classic ❤️💛🤍

🦖Cassie Burnett and Basilou were 11th in the 0.80 Jr/Am Classic with confident and consistent rounds all week 💚
