Not all infrastructure inspections happen in fancy marinas… sometimes we trade the dock for a lake, the clear water for mud soup, and shiny hardware for pipes that look like they’ve been through three wars.
We were recently called out to a lake to inspect and measure pipes and underwater hardware, while also marking the area to make the eventual removal and replacement as efficient as possible.
And yes… the pictures may look like rusty pipes, random holes in the ground, grass, mud, and absolutely zero visibility. 👀🌱
But this is exactly why this type of work belongs to experienced commercial divers.
Underwater, you’re working with limited visibility, unknown conditions, potentially compromised hardware, and a very short list of things you can actually see. Getting the wrong measurement isn’t a small mistake, it can mean expensive delays, incorrect materials, and doing the job all over again.
And then there’s the fun part: How long will the job take?
Because when you’re underwater fighting mud, rust, and poor visibility, the clock is always ticking. ⏱️🤿
Marinas aren’t the only places where biofouling, corrosion, and age take their toll. Lakes and freshwater systems need inspections too, and sometimes what looks like “just a rusty pipe” from the surface turns into a much bigger underwater puzzle.
Measure twice. Mark it right. Plan ahead.
Because underwater,
“I think that’s about 6 feet” is not a measurement strategy.
