Iāve been up in Desolation Sound for a week with friends cruising on their sailboat. Weāve enjoyed warm water, hot temps and incredible views. Iāve also been intrigued by all the methods for attaching a kayak or paddle board to boats. Visit my Substack page āPaddling the Salish Seaā to learn not only how to attach watercraft to your boat but also which craft are best for this. Click on my Substack link in bio and search for the article.

The Gunkholing series are classic cruising guides for the Salish Sea. Long out of print I love finding them in used bookstores. Still totally relevant somethings never change. Those that do are cafes, etc. The Desolation Sound one mentions body surfing a tidal stream on the bay weāre on, stoked! š

Last night about the time we were driving through North Bend after a hot and smokey trip to Spokane, friends at the Elks spotted a orca pod going by, a rare sighting in Ballard! The pod went up to the locks and moved out after. Anyone know of they are transients or southern residents? #1 by Vaughan Sup Boarding and image #2 by Steve Rollert. Join the Ballard elks, u can have a drink by the Sound and watch orcas :)
