For a long time I told trainers: if you love what you do, the rest will follow.

I was wrong about that.

I LOVE training people. I love this industry. I’ve been a personal trainer for over 30 years and I still get excited about what’s possible when someone commits to getting strong.

But passion does not pay your rent. Passion does not build your team. Passion does not keep a client who isn’t seeing results from walking out the door.

Year 3 of Results Fitness I was exhausted. Working more hours than I ever had in my life, doing work I loved…and the business still wasn’t where it needed to be.

For a minute I thought — maybe I’m just not good at this.

But that wasn’t it.

The passion was there. What was missing was the business education. The systems. The understanding of how to actually run a company — not just a training session.

Nobody teaches trainers that part. We go through certifications, we learn anatomy and programming and form cues… and then we get handed a client list and told good luck.

The passion gets you started. The systems keep you going.

If you’re in year 1, year 2, year 3 and you’re grinding and loving it and still feeling like something isn’t clicking — I want you to hear this:

It’s not your passion that’s the problem. It’s the missing roadmap.

And that is completely fixable.

More clients does not mean more money.

I know — that sounds backwards. Stay with me, because once you see this math you can’t unsee it.

When most trainers want to grow their income, the first instinct is: get more clients. Add more sessions. Work more hours.

But here’s the problem. You only have so many hours in a day. And one-on-one personal training will cap you — in income AND in the number of people you can actually help.

At Results Fitness we shifted to training groups of 4 to 6 at a time. Same quality coaching. Same results. But now one trainer isn’t just impacting one person — they’re impacting four, five, six people in the same hour.

And the revenue math completely changes.

100 clients at $300 a month is $30,000 a month. That’s not a unicorn number. That’s a system.

If those 100 clients train twice a week that’s 200 hours/week one-on-one versus 50 hours a week if you see four clients an hour.

The trainers working 60-hour weeks trying to hit that number one client at a time are grinding the wrong way. The ones who figured this out are working FEWER hours, helping MORE people, and building something that doesn’t need them there every single day.

The goal was never more clients. The goal is the right model.

Because when the model is right, growth doesn’t have to cost you your life. 💪

26 years in business. And I still love walking through these doors.

Most people assume being a gym owner this long means you’re burned out, running on fumes, holding it together with duct tape and caffeine. I get why — that’s the real story for a lot of gym owners. The fires. The overwhelm. The feeling that if you step away for one day the whole thing falls apart.

That was never the gym we wanted to build.

Thinking about all the Dads today!

So many Results University incredible Dads who have worked hard to create businesses to be able to spend time with their kids being there to coach soccer teams, attend dance recitals & celebrate the special moments❤️ with kids who are so lucky to have you to look up to!

Father’s Day hits pretty different at this point in my life on my sixth Father’s Day without my Dad and the first Fathers Day without my Scottish Father in Law who became my second Dad over 26 years ago.

I may be in my 50’s but I’m still a little girl who misses her Dad 💔 and now my Scottish Dad 😢

Hug your Dad if you can extra hard this Fathers Day❤️

Years ago I wrote “get published in a fitness magazine” on my vision board.

Next conference I went to, I sat down and the woman next to me happened to be the editor of Fitness Magazine. I knew that was my shot. We swapped info, I pitched her a few ideas, and I got published. ✨

Here’s what I’ve learned about vision boards (and yes, I know that sounds a little woo-woo coming from a business coach 😉)… they’re not magic. When you get crystal clear on what you want, you actually start to SEE the openings when they show up. You can’t hit a target you can’t see.

And a vision for your business without a plan? That’s just a pretty collage.

The vision tells you WHERE you’re going. The plan is how you get there.
