Crunches and sit-ups barely touch your obliques but hanging leg side bends do!
It's a little different from a side crunch in that this is a bottom-to-top movement, with the legs curling upward instead of the shoulder moving toward the hip.
Directions: Hang from the bar with legs together and think about driving your hip up toward your shoulder. I use the barbell behind me to limit momentum and also take a 1 second pause before each rep instead of swinging back and forth.
This isn't your typical flexion and extension core work. This is lateral flexion. Most people train the front of their core all day but leave the sides weak which can lead to muscle imbalances down the road.

This is why training matters 💪
Nobody talks about this muscle up progression 🗣️
I use to swing my way over the bar and call it a muscle-up... I was relying on way too much swinging and momentum just hoping I could get over the bar. Now I took a couple steps back for good reason and now training muscle-ups with a band with minimal swing relying on fast-twitch muscle fiber recruitment and technique to pull myself over the bar.
Here's why that matters. Pulling explosively is an adaptation to train which is quite different than a standard hypertrophy focused pull-up. Our goal here is not to push towards fatigue but rather limit our reps based on how good our technique is and how much velocity we get while pulling. You start training around those principles you can start getting sloppy with the form and bad habits start to show up such as kipping, sloppier transitions and shoulders taking on unnecessary stress.
Slow down.... build the explosiveness first. The bar will still be there once you're ready to take the band away!
Pseudo planche pushups on parallettes give you a SUPER DEEP stretch while also building strength. You're training strength AND mobility in the same rep which is like killing 2 🐦 with one 🥥❗
Shoulder issues... We need more external rotation❗
When we don't program to train our shoulder stabilizers then our humerus can drift forward when we press or pull. The stronger that we get in our pushing and pulling the worse it can get if we dont train external rotation.
We cannot forget to train our shoulder stabilizers! REPEAT WITH ME We cannot forget to train our shoulder stabilizers!
A little over 4 months left... Are you ready to make that change or make excuses still?
This was painful... but probably more painful to watch 😱
