5 Things to Know About POS Storage
1. Local Backup is Key Even if your POS is "in the cloud," the hard drive stores your data locally so you can keep selling if the internet goes out. It syncs back up once you're online.
2. SSD is Better than HDD If you’re buying hardware, always choose an SSD (Solid State Drive). They are much faster and have no moving parts, meaning they won't break if the counter gets bumped or shaken.
3. Keep it Lean Don’t store personal photos, music, or extra apps on your POS hard drive. This slows down the system and can cause your checkout screen to lag or "freeze."
4. Security First Your hard drive contains sensitive sales data. Ensure your POS software encrypts this data so that if the device is stolen, your business info stays locked.
5. Regular "Health" Checks Hard drives don't last forever. If your POS starts "hanging" on simple tasks or taking a long time to boot up, it might be a sign the drive is failing.
