The Schutz Brother’s Legacy Early Days: After the war, the two brothers decided to turn their much-loved hobbies into a business; Don Schutz loved leather and horses. His brother, Dick, loved collecting guns. The sale of Don's Arabian Stallion, Indraff, enabled them to begin Schutz Brothers'.
The brothers built their business on quality, attention to detail, innovation, and customer service. For the gun shop, Robert Sherer was hired to design and build a custom rifle barrel making machine to such quality that a Schutz Brothers’ gun barrel was used to win a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics 300-meter rifle shoot. Don Schutz put this same attention to detail and quality into everything in the leather shop where he personally cut every side of leather. Don’s understanding and love of leather, the leather horse equipment he crafted, especially his reins, soon gained notoriety with horsemen for their quality, durability and great feel.

In 1946, Don Schutz was familiar with every Arabian horse in the country and raised the money to begin Schutz Brothers by selling his prized Arabian breeding stallion, Indraff, to Bazie Tankersley of Al-Marah Arabians. The picture shows Don and Indraff in an Arabian costume class.
Indraff (1938–1963.) was a gray Arabian stallion, purchased by Don as a young horse (Sire: Raffles, Dam: Indaia) and was influential in the Arabian breed in the USA.
